WOW! What fantastic photos and memories :-)

Mine are all old 'mile away' shots so won't embarass myself posting them lol!

I grew up in Louth then Grimsby so cylced very often to Binbrook. I remember the first airshow I went to there 1982 and still have the program somewhere lol!

Can you see Lightnings flying anywhere these days? I past a few here and there possibly nr. Weelsby Woods in Grimsby some years ago? Red tail maybe where those photos were taken?

I can remember sitting in class at Wintringham and watching them scream over head...good old days lol! (feeling nostaligic for 36)!!!

By the way, I was in the film Memphis Belle the Summer they filmed there, more nostalgia walking around the base. Anyone have any photos from the film or sets? I think I have a few of the B-17.

There's 3 or 4 privately owned Lightnings in South Africa that fly regularly,the CAA won't allow Lightnings to fly in UK airspace though.
There's plenty of preserved examples in the UK,however not enough are under cover.

This post is amazing and upsetting. Went to Binrook as a kid in the 80's but couldnt really understand what my family were telling about the lightning and Binbrook. Only memory i had was of looking at to small hangers and lots of noise. Went back there last year but as it was snowing did'nt really want to get out of the car. These two pics show the view now of what i remember. Very sad!

There also my first images on the forum (more to follow). Taken with my lumix point and shot as i didnt have my SLR with me.
