The chap with the white helmet is Brian Carroll.Who sadly is no longer with us.A great gent who flew with 23Sqn and later with the Saudis.Dearly missed by all at the LPG. I normally find my self at that end only after the run collecting the brake chute with others in our trusty LPG1 Nice to see Jim.

Thanks for the feedback guys, Jim it certainly was Brian Carroll in the cockpit that day. After having my earwax blasted out by his afterburner - I must have been all but twenty feet away from him when he hit the reheat and sped off! :o Brian then taxied back and performed a pirouette in front of us before shutting the Avons down, my ears were still ringing when he casually climbed down and sauntered over, "Did you enjoy that?" he asked, then proceeded to converse with everyone. Down to earth, no airs & graces about him, a lovely fellow. I thoroughly enjoyed that day at the top end of Brunty, it was quite unexpected, not so much quantity of aircraft just pure quality and a great atmosphere too. There weren't that many people present (about 500+ ?), and everyone I spoke to there were either veterens or enthusiasts all with their own stories to tell. Should use the top end more often then? MarkL :)

Two little-seen codes there too - the LTF's 'DT', which didn't last long, and the short-lived 11 sqn jet 'BO', which probably didn't endure for obvious reasons!

Thanks for the pics, lovely, :) The day was held in honour of Roly Beamont (RIP) and was held at the other end as the runway at the 'usual' end was full of cars. ;) As Jim says Brian was the pilot on the day and is sadly missed by us all a true gentleman, RIP Brian
I think Dennis took 904 later, Im sure we did 3 runs that day, once with 904 and twice with 728
And looking at your 'rear end' shot our No2 burner snag we have just fixed was manifesting its self even then back in 2002, blimmey doesnt time fly eh ;)
Here he is on that very day doing what he always did after run, like you say, saying 'did you like that' ;)
If I remember right we also had the ill fated jets cars there that day
And our gathering of names for the day, at the 'signing table'
Brian, Jimmy Dell (RIP),Peter Collins, John Spencer and Dennis Brooks
Thanks for posting and I hope Bruntingthorpe and what we do there, isnt seen as 'done to death' we are I think a bit special ;)
We dont use that end as much as we would like due to access, ie getting all the visitors up there, which is a problem, maybe one day ;)
See you maybe in May July or August ;)

Cheers for your recollection - from what i've read the F2A was almost "exclusively" a RAFG machine. Makes your great picture all the more rare. As i've said before - please keep them coming :)

Were you? Great shots, My old mans fav plane, mine was Phantom, but as I got older I saw the attraction, still vividly remember the last trime I saw one fly at Mildenhall when they pulled (2 I believe) from the static to launch a typical fantastic Lightning take off
