Some of you that are a bit more technical than me may already know about this or be able to help add but ive used the Ofcom site a few times to book frequencies for equipment at work and these links maybe handy to anyone not just interested in Aviation scanning. Ive added a few links that maybe helpfull if you want to know whats being transmitted in your area. Altough some of the allocations dont go into detail in the aviation sections it still gives you a good idea of the ranges and may help with reguard to which freqs to avoid if undesired.

This link is to a detailed list of the Frequency spectrum in the Uk and has some interesting information on Space to Earth freqs and maybe of interest:
http://www.ofcom.org.uk/radiocomms/isu/ukfat/ukfat08.pdf

This link is to the Ofcom Frequency table which is a little easier to understand than the above but does not go into as much detail:
http://www.roke.co.uk/download/datasheets/uk-frequency-allocations.pdf

This link is for finding out weather a particular freq is availabe for you to transmit on in you area (UK). You can use it to input certain frequency that you've picked up and identify what it is. You may not get an exact name/use for that frequency but it may give you an idea of what is being broadcast:

This Link is to the ERO frecuency information system which helps you find frequencies around Europe including the UK (you may find this link easier to use but it may not give you as much information as the above Ofcom links:
