Stop my little lad from altering all the settings on my camera?? I have just had a fruitless trip to Northwich to see the BBMF Spitfire display,(I arrived just as he came into view , but thats another story!!) fired off about 90 shots , you know the story perfect light , great spot to take pics , great display, I get home and up load my photos to the P.C. only to discover that little fingers have altered all my presets . I now have 90 white pictures of a pale blured Spit !!! I am going to kill something !!

If only cameras came with Child Locks! I guess the best thing to do would be to check your settings just before putting the camera in your bag prior to going out again, and then once more when you get there (in case said small child somehow inexplicably gets into the camera bag). I always check my settings, mostly because I always mess around with them when Im going "general" photography, so its never set up for aircraft. Ben

In the house keep your camera bag on top of a wardrobe so that little people can't reach it. In the car keep it in the passenger foot-well,so you can keep an eye on it. Always check settings before using it. Kill any small-person if he/she's managed to fiddle with it.

I have long had a policy of always putting my cameras away into my bag set to the same settings, so that if doing a quick grab that I know exactly what to do. My preference is f8.0 on AV, AWB, Auto ISO etc., etc. - this is not to cover aviation photography but all possibilities. Obviously this policy can be adapted to cover all eventualities, and clearly doesn't allow for meddling sprogs, but would make things easier. Flaps' suggestion of the wardrobe or similar inaccessible place is good, another is some means of securing the camera bag such as a small lock on the zips etc. Of course the alternative is a of means securing said sprogs - glue/Velcro/nail them to the ceiling/wall/floor, or if living in a relatively secure area, keep your camera bag locked in the car boot at this time of year when temperature isn't a problem. Also remember threats of dire consequences should said sprog(s) dare to touch Dad's camera bag.

I like the idea of putting each kid in a boiler suit covered in Velcro and just sticking them up on the wall to keep them out of the way I suppose the easier and more acceptible alternative is just to teach the little b______s* not to fiddle with Dad's photographic bag in the first place or else ... ... ... * Honest Your honur, I meant "blighters"

Feed them brocolli/cauliflower/cabbage/turnip/haggis/lumpy mashed pototo/semolina/tripe/tapioca/boiled duck and badger's livers if they fail to comply with the regulations imposed on them by the owner of the said camera.

My camera is always at my side in the study , so that when I hear that Wokka wokka of a passing chopper or (Cough Cough) civvies on finals to Manchester I can run outside and fire away to my hearts content . He never touches it normally , and I normally check before shooting ,it's just today we were in such a hurry (As I mentioned it was a quick dash as She Who Must Be Obeyed had decided to put herself in the shower at 5 mins to 1 and I had a 10 mile dash to do in 10 minutes etc, etc, etc,) I think the velcro / baseball bat is possibly the best solution !!

Suggest the Velcro and cauliflower (I detest cauliflower) every meal for a week, plus the threat of the baseball bat and withdrawal of all privileges in perpetuity ... ... ... let's face it, we cant have the sprog fiddling with Beefsteak's camera

All i suggest is invest in Digi camera, that way you can check how the pics are on the little screen on the back after you've taken the first few shots, I see you said it was a 'display' so that would give you time to check while the aircraft is turning for another pass
Also on a dslr camera you can see the settings while taking the pics
Other than that until you upgrade, the options already posted seem about right

Spot on mister sniper, I have a Canon 400D EOS, my fault for not checking first I know, I did the stupid thing of ASSuming, ie. "Don't assume anything as it makes an {censored} out of U and ME." Cliche, cliche, cliche. By the way , it had to be one of those great displays , very tight turns etc and not a lot of time (In between making sure the little ones were safe) to check on any thing else!! I still fancy the baseball bat option!!

does the 400D allow you to save/set custom profiles? That way you would just have to make sure that you had selected your profile & everything would be set to your baseline settings.

I suggest maybe before putting your camera away, you mess up the settings that way if your young un messes with it he might put the settings right Or ask the missus to put it away for you, because once they put things away nobody will find it. but they seem to know it with that Female Tracking they have
