Hello again chaps

I bought myself a Yupiteru MVT-7100 scanner, and as it only had a rubber duck aerial, i also bought a replacement aerial (as below)
http://www.rocketradio.co.uk/yupiteru-mvt-7100--7300-replacement-scanner-antenna-76-p.asp

I live in Telford, Shropshire, which is in between Cosford (5.65 miles away) & Shawbury (13.36 miles away).

The problem im having, is I dont seem to be able to pick either up from in my flat. I have tried both aerials, but still nothing. Im presuming (and hoping) its simply because im a complete noob when it comes to scanners, and am simply doing something wrong. I have tried the frequencies listed in the forums for both bases, but I just get static until it goes blank with the squelch obviously. I entered these frequencies in AM Mode ( is that correct?

I thought i would be able to listen in from home, am i wrong? or am i simply doing something wrong?

As always, I appreciate any help anyone can provide.

Kind regards
Rob Engvikson

Hi Rob, I'm afraid I'm a bit of a novice at scanning myself so I can't really help much with your problem. I just wanted to say that here in Bewdley two of the worst airfields for me to pick up without interference are Cosford and Shawbury most of the time. I just had Shawbury Approach a few minutes ago on 282.0 which was fair. One suggestion I will make is you take your scanner out in the open and give it a try. You should pick up o.k on the civi band say from 118ish to 136. AM is correct and the frequency step set to 25 should get some sort of responce. Hopefully one of the experienced lads on this site will come up with the answer to your problem.
I hope you're soon sorted..Kindest..Jim.. :) ..

Tried Birmingham (118.050), and got one way conversatiuons, could only hear the pilots replying to ATC, but could not hear ATC voices. Also had it on 282.0 for a while, and as it was so quiet forgot Id left it on, then suddenly heard Alpha something or other talking... made me jump, as i forgot it was on, lol. Have it stuck on 282.0 for the moment. Finding it a bit hard to understand what they say sometimes as they talk so fast, lol. Again, with Cosford, dont hear tower or anything, just the pilots from what i can make out.

Try 135.150 , 133.600 , 131.125 , 130.925 , 280.350 , 278.600 most of these are transmited from clee hill (think that is near you i am near Burton on trent and can hear ground and aircraft from these,it might be your aeriel try getting it as high as poss. as it works on line of sight so if you are in a valley forget it.Hope this helps.
