Hi there I've got a small question about the range I can hear on a Scanner, now I have a MVT-7100 model with the original telescopic aerial it came with a number of years back (about 4 or 5 I'd say) now how far do you think I would be able to hear with that and do I need any attachments - I live near Edinburgh, Scotland.

It's basically "line-of-sight"-you won't hear anything over the horizon or anything behind large hills or mountains.

You'll only hear the controller if you're relatively near the aerial that those signals are coming from,I don't think Aileron will hear the controllers at Coningsby, but he should get Mildenhall as it's just down the road from him.

An outside aerial on the roof helps an awful lot,the higher, the better.

I have an MVT-7100 and use a home made Bi-Cone (from the Sticky at the top of the Scanner page) This Bi-Cone knocks the socks of the standard telescopic even in the house.
Many thanks Alan - Burgemusic
