Hi Anbody know if the Reds are likely to practise on base before going to these displays. I had planned to take someone on the 20th for some shots. It would have been nice to get something better than them leaving and returning to/from valley. Thanks for any help. Kev.

The Reds display at Coningsby is at 15.25 on Monday according to the NOTAM. Does anyone know if there are any full practise displays at Scampton on Saturday.

They have been known to practice on a weekend. It will be covered by a NOTAM. They conducted a practice display in the morning and afternoon of Sat 31st May 08. TJ

TJ Yes, that was my exact reason for asking if they practise on Saturdays. I went on Saturday 31st May last year and saw them do 2 practise displays, it was awsome. But like you said TEEJ it did have a NOTAM for that and there are No NOTAMs for Scampton at the moment. I will keep checking the NOTAMs for future weekends, just incase they decide to do this again. ;) Are the Red Arrows still using 243.450 for their frequency this year and will they be using this at Coningsby on Monday.
Thanks James

Hi All if I remember rightly these were ISP's (In Season Practice), they usually perform these if there is a gap in their schedule of 4 days or more, Waddington Arrivals day last year was also a cracker, whilst it was a Friday, we saw them do 3 practices, even froma distance it looked good. Was there for the first nineship on Thursday this week, all I can say is awesome and bring on the airshow season and keep off the rain... Kevster

That location would be roughly crowd centre. Being on the south side all the movements will be away from crowd and towards the crowd line. Either end of the runway locations would be good too for the singletons and repositioning manoeuvres. All very hit or miss though as you could be in a perfect position to catch a tight bank but be shooting on the wrong side of the sun. The eastern end viewing points would be good to catch a tight bank and catch the sun on the top sides. All very hit or miss. The sun, if it is out, should be well to the south and heading for the south west position by the time the display starts. The mound should be good for overhead banks from the singletons etc, but unless you can catch it before it banks around the mound then you will be shooting into the sun or the aircraft will be turning into shadow. The Lightning Gate road, or positions further south of it, should be good for vertical formation manoeuvres. TJ
