From the Vulcan facebook group, possibly might not make it to Lyneham next weekend:

Hi guys

Anyone planning a trip to Whitehaven should read this

Possible flight cancellation
04 August 2009 - VTTS

We
currently have an unresolved issue concerning the Port Main
Undercarriage and its approval for further flights. As the result, we
need to announce that it may prove necessary to cancel the flights
planned for this coming weekend, specifically the display at Whitehaven
on Sunday 9th August. We will provide a further update by close of
business on Friday 7th.

Its going to be a bit of a nightmare - will be impossible to go to 36 for the helicopters and 06 for the larger aircraft and 24 for the jets - going to have to prioritize i think Angel

Most years I have gone to 06 in the morning and caught the arrivals .... then go to 36 for Displays then back to 06 in the afternoon for stuff departing. One problem, not sure if anyones been to 06 recently, but my dad went up a few weeks back and the field was compleatly full of cow doodo's ... and the woods were overgrown like a jungle and not accessable. Would be good if someone knows what it's like at the moment as no point walking all the way there to find you can't get up to the 06 end.

Jon,
Your'l have to text me when your there and you can bung the bike in the back of my car again if need be. (and if theres room)

Ooo Rick, watch out with that field. A notice was put up that it's MOD land - I've watched someone get told to get out there once by some bloke checking the Aproach Lights in the field. People used to walk their dogs through there but they dont anymore. Will probably see you there.

Lets hope the Vulcan does get fixed in time.

Might Even Get an Airbus Or DC8 on the ground too saturday! :). ALthough they wont be part of the static display, they will be parked not too far away.

2 german spotters (sorry.. enthusiasts) stepped over the (pathetic) knee high tape barrier and and were wondering across the pan towaards the DC8, The rozzers came and directed them back Clap

Sam, not sure which field you are thinking of but this one doesnt have any landing lights in and is down by New Zealand. Maybe your thinking of the one by 18 with the bulls in?

Would be nice to get the DC-8 in - normally in on saturdays isnt it?

I'm thinking of the one with the Aproach lights in at 36 ha!. It's the Field exactly by the threshold of 36. theres a Fence either side of the road. There used to be Bee Hives kept in the corner of it by the hedge but not anymore since the MOD closed public access to the field. Haha, I have no idea then if you are talking about another field!

Hello,
Does anyone know the display line?
I would assume one of the runways so either 13/36 or 07/25

Will take the dog for a long walk tomorrow so will try some of the spotting spots

Notams say Red Arrows 12:55 to 13:34
RAF Falcons 14:09 to 15:09 Drop time 14:39

Sam, never really felt the need to go in that field - i think the roads better.

Jon, iv got a few places to go first so wont be there until a big later. I would get there for 10.

sjnovis, display line is 18/36 and i believe they take off on 24/06 but i think it will be northerly winds so its anyone's guess! I believe the reds are at 1pm local. And i think the Vulcan is down to arrive around the time the Falcons drop...if it comes.

I've been told Chinook will display then land for static - could be wrong, if you've heard from ops late this evening. So might not be a Chinook in the morning.

..nah I marshalled the Chinook in myself earlier today. Its Blocked in where its parked, and theres too much stuff around to lift straight up.
so they should be sending another for flying. thats what we have heard. which makes sense. :)
