Big Matchbox Diecast collector, I have several very large wooden MFO boxes with rope handles full of Matchbox diecast cars, trucks and aeroplanes (boxed and blister packed) from the late 50's to present day, including some playsets (boxed) from the 70's and early 80's including catalogues and books written about the hobby.

I had to rent out a storage unit that was similiar to a 40'ft container, to put all my collection in, well most of it as there still wasn't enough room, even with them stacked 3 high.

My parents still have several MFO boxes at theirs. Lucky enough I have moved into a larger house and now the 40FT container worth is contained in 2 double bedrooms, as Adam has claimed the biggest room.

Prices have come down dramatically now from those made in England in the 60's and 70's as no one collects them. Toys R Us is the only place where you can still get the latest releasesat 99p for the new ones, but they are nearly 18 months behind.

Insuring them was a nightmare, because a few companies wanted a full inventory.

I know one collector in the USA has spent 6 years logging his collection and still logging them.

Thanks to a guy in Worcester (UK), who has done a book with photos of every single model from the 50's 60's, 70's and the last english made ones, I have been able to secure insurance of £250 a year for just those models.

I have had to use another insurance company to insure the rest of them. If the prices go down even more then I will have to conceed and get them auctioned at Vectis or have the Matchbox International Collectors Association (used to be based in Chester Toy Museum) auction them.

Other hobbies, well I love classic VW Beetles, not been able to attend any shows this year, but I usually do Stanford Hall on the Leicestershire / Northants border in May.

Also attend the occasional Military Vehicle show, recently did Elvington, sadly can't do Kemble's show nor can I make Roughams Wings & Wheels one.

But I might be able to make the MVT at Duxford on fathers day. Went last year, got the Vehicles, the Museums and a mini airshow for a reasonable entry fee. Days like these make Duxford value for money.

I'm an associate member of the Nottingham Institute of Advanced Motorcyclists which is really good and enjoy the weekend observed rides and the group ride outs.

Into Secret Military History, and an avid fan of the Military History Channel. This Saturday at 9pm is a programme about D-Day. Last night I watched a programme about the Mosquito and how the OSS of the USA borrowed and converted some Mosquitos for their operations in Occupied France.

Love my Greene King and Adnams ale. Since Greene King took over Hardy and Hansons more pubs in Nottingham are selling more Greene King ales, and there are 2 pubs in Nottingham that sell Adnams ale as draught. Love my Suffolk Cyder.

Like going to Rock gigs, distance is no problem as my mate and I went to athens to see Iron Maiden in concert and came back the next day. Made sure we got some Go Karting in whilst there and also checked out the wrecks and relics at the old airport as well via Taxi.

Love my food, current weakness now as I get invited to alot of meetings, whereby large indian and chinese resturants are frequently visited after the boardroom buffets, for a social aspect.

Used to visit various museums and towns, just for the change of scenery and the "independent" shops & markets. But sadly these people are now being forced to close due to high rates and now sports and fashion shops take their places.

Big book collector as well, bit of a PD James and John le Carre fan, and have a few 1st edition HB's.

Favourite books are Firefox, Firefox Down and Former Soldier seeks employment.

Used to be into the 1:300 Modern Warefare tabletop games, but they have become really expensive now.

I used to shoot .177 and .22 and 7.62 in the cadets and carried on whilst at College, but when I lost my left eye between finishing College and starting uni from a hit and run, I had to re-learn as I am left handed.

Gave it up in the end. Was invited to join an exclusive gun club in Nottingham City Centre that has been around for along time, I declined as I couldn't commit to the number of times I had to attend.

I like to keep myself occupied.

I've never tried getting into flying scale models, chiefly because they used to be mostly any old shapes and sizes and never really looked much like real aircraft, whereas I'm a stickler for accuracy in scale models. But there seems to be a much bigger interest in flying models now which faithfully replicate the looks of full-szied machines. I remember seeing a Huge Hercules model some years back which looked very impressive. If I had the spare cash I think I'd be tempted to build a large RC helicopter of some sort - always kinda fancied that idea, and the idea of fixing a gyro-stablised camera in it to take aerial photographs. Oh well, dream on guess, I'll stick to the plastic models!

Can't say I've ever really had any hobbies other than model aircraft. I like walking (especially out in the hills), and I used to be a bit of a gym addict although I've kinda got out of that habit of late. If/when I get the energy/enthusiasm I think I'll start again though! Wish gardening was on my list of hobbies - looking out of the window, it looks like a jungle out there!
