Ive never used one but from what ive heard (from several people) the focusing is slow, and image quality fairly soft. When buying a lens its worth waiting a bit longer to buy the best you can rather than buying one just for the sake of it.

What lens is it you are after , as the prices between Sigma & Tamron are normally pretty close.
Cano or Nikon FIT.

I'm still using my tamron lens, I got it as part of the package with my D60 back in December, while it's still not massively brilliant it does a job for me. Like the others say if you can save for another few months and get something a bit better for a bit more money then it will probably be worth it, like yourself I'm looking for something with a bit more range and a bit better quality, maybe one day!!

I certainly do Aileron, I was there with my Dad. Looking through the net, have a look at Warehouse Express for Nikon lenses (obviously with guidance from the lads on here) and then when you see what you want have a look through the net/ebay for it to get it as cheap as possible, I've just seen a rather nice 400mm nikon I quite like the look of!!
Ps Shouldn't you have stuck the beetle in the Mugshot Gallery??!!!
Cheers

I started with a Tamron 70-300 and got some great results. Then upgraded to a Nikon 70-300 VR.Then Jo had it for about 18 months and again got some great results probably the only complant would be its a bit slow and some times a bit soft.To be honest i would save ya money for a Nikon VR lens as your images would be 100% better the glass is every thing when shooting great pics.Jo has just got one last week from Norfolk camera center for £405 we woth the money if ya ask me.hope this helps ya Benn

Hey Aileron.
I too just like rj79 got mine in a deal with the D60. I find the lense to be slow at focussing and sometimes hunts. It also loses quite a bit of quality when at full extent. I would love a Nikkor VR but I cannot afford it either! I have just posted some photos from Coningsby today with a D60 and Tamron 70-300 with only some exposure alterations along with sharpening and noise reductions before uploading. When you get used to using it, you can get some pretty good results.
HTH,
All the best,
Joe
