With that lens you will have no problem getting what you want. Just take a step ladder to get over the hedge if you are going to walk down to the roadside and not stay in the viewing area (not literally Big Grin ). Trouble with the viewing area is that you will be photgraphing into the sun until late afternoon.

The park and view location won't be favourable for photography until the afternoon. That is why you'll see a lot of people parking up in the park and view and then heading back down to the area near the official viewing area. The official viewing area (WAVE) will be closed.

It really is first come, first served to get a good position if you are using a ladder on the outside. Some people park in the village and then walk back in order to get the best ladder vantage points. You can still get good landing shots from the roadside. The farmer is for ever chasing people out of the field during the arrival days. I don't know why he just doesn't put a sign up? Absolutely no need to trespass on his land, but you still see people wandering in and tramping all over his fields!

The above is all dependant on what runway is in use!

Some examples from Airliners.net

Use the search engine on Airliners for other examples.

Outside during the morning

The following will be a ladder shot taken in the morning from the outside.

This following two images will be taken in the afternoon when it is an advantage to be on the inside.

Hi Paul,

Monday departures day should all be over by midday. The Park and View on the Monday will normally close early afternoon.

It's also worth pointing out that the park and view tickets suggest there's no re-entry if you choose to leave the park and view and then try and get back in - ie you would have to pay again. They don't enforce that for pedestrian exit and entry, or haven't in my experience over the last 3 or 4 years that I've done the arrivals day.

Sorry, just one more question.

Where do you get the park and view tickets? Do you just pay on the day?

Yes you do, tickets on the gate and they usually provide with an arrivals list as well. Although the list normally goes to pot!

So true lol.

Incidently, the P&V fee is normally 7 or 8 quid per car, which is pretty good value if you're travelling with friends.

Yep, £5 per person, so if you go on your own you'll save a bit of dosh from last year!
