Mini Warton Airshow.
12.10pm Tarnish 9 in Base GR4 Tornado ZG773. landed at 15.02pm
13.10pm T 11 in PC 9 ZK 119
13.18pm T 8 in Saudi TSP Tornado ZH 917 (must have heard its Cote Du Rhone Time again) T8 rotated off R26 kept the tornado low to end of runway and pulled into very steep vertical climb after his sortie as he RTBd he flew holding hands with T4 who was in a new build hawk on delivery from Brough.
13.34pm Pegasus 1 FRA Falcon G.FFRA off on sortie.
13.38pm Pegasus 2 FRA Falcon F.GRAS off on sortie.
14.14pm Tarnish 4 in new build hawk from Brough ZK 019 1 T&G and land.
14.24pm 2 Valley Hawks one with a gun pod only got one (175) flew off to Valley.
14.36pm Typhoons IPA 1 & IPA 6 lined up together but took off seperately with 10 second delay, request from Tower to make immediate left turn to east to avoid Blackpool Traffic both rotated on dry climbed to about 500feet and hard left and away.
14.46pm Typhoon 11, Squadron coded DD ZJ 924 request from pilot Typhoon 66 to do a PFAT and climb vertically to 14,000 feet. What a fantastic sight to see a Typhoon go vertically with those EJ 200s burning bright orange wow. Of course one should say that our Pilots Tarnish 5 7 8 & 17 fly our base typhoons even better than the RAF Pilots especially on PFAT climb outs.
It was time for an early bath as Im going to The RAES Lecture tonight where one of our Tornado Navigators is giving a talk on Tornado Trials. What a fantastic lecture he described doing ultra low level trials with Keith Hartley in the front seat, on one ocasion they were on a trial out of Boscombe Down somewhere in the West Country when the TFR had a malfunction they were doing in excess of 400 knots Keith was flying on instruments he looked up and saw a hill looming in front of the aircraft Keith pulled over 7andhalf G and telementary later revealed that they were 19 feet from impacting the ground (A bit high for Keith) the navigator blacked out.

Another nice fine day but a few more clouds, reports to follow later.
Arrived at noon Repoman present he will be posting late afternoon.
Steve will be posting Tarnish 4 in a GR 9 Harrier ZD 354 coded 21sorry.
T4 did about three rollers using 08 some pushups and landed.
12.20pm approx Rebel 80 called up for start up an taxi we were
expecting a 41 Sq Tornado where in fact we had our old GR4 ZG 773
loaded up with Paveways makes for a nice photo. On rotation from 08
Rebel 80 kept a nice low level profile. out on sortie for about 50mins
on RTB did one T&G and landed. I left early for a turkey dinner.
Tomorrow could be another interesting day with Falcons Typhoons and HawksBDSTHIIDH.

When I arrived home today I received an e-mail from a Dutch Friend who I met at Warton earlier in the year, he use to play the drums in the Leeuwarden Airbase band. He is involved with Scramble and he recomended that I should have a look at one of their websites which features Warton as well as other UK and foreign bases. http://www.scramble.nl/airports/index.html
Log for Friday 2.12.08 Indian Hawk HT 19 ZK139 on test flight flew clean PC 9 ZK119 + Tarnish 9 in Saudi Tornado ZH917.

Bit late, but heres a very quiet log for Monday:
Avro04 out AM, back PM low level over the Irish sea, and then doing 5 minute power climbs, back to low level again.
PC-9 - Tarnish 11 up PM
Avro 03 - returned from France(?) Late PM.
Didnt stick around long, was dead, no Typhoons on the line at all.
Only other person I saw was a guy in a silver VW fast asleep with his scanner on!

I was filling up with fuel at a local garage when a Typhoon came into the circuit and did a couple of T & Gs and landed at about 11.25am A local correspondent thought it was ZJ 948 which had taken off 40 minutes previously. On the North side apron was MR4A Nimrod ZJ 518 facing north if any Nimrod is going to fly it usually faces west. west of the Nimrod were 5 Typhoons. A 3 Sq Typhoon QO-L Saudi Typhoon still in primer ZK 061 Typhoon ZJ 948 Typhoon IPA 6 ZJ 938 and IPA 5 ZJ 700 all were due to fly mid afternoon. The telementary van was manned for an hour from 1.0pm but they packed up and the Runway ATC van RTB the tower so all Typhoon missions scrubbed and no wonder about half an hour later precipitation was not only in sight but coming down in stair rods. As its my birthday tomorrow Im expecting something special. Reheats etc I just hope they dont -BOTTLE- out

Tarnish 18 was heard outbound circa 10:45hrs. At 14:44hrs 'Armyair 763' went OTT inbound to Woodvale. ZJ266 / 66 Squirrel was in/out of Blackpool as 'Shawbury 64'.

I did indicate on Tuesdays log that today was going to be special and thats how it turned out.
The first two movements were witnessed by two different local correspondents.
9.0am Hawk thought to be RT 8.
10.15am Primer Saudi Typhoon held over from yesterday burner takeoff what else nice fast run run and break which I witnesed landed at 10.45am.
Guantlet 19 in Typhoon IPA 1 ZJ 699 taxied up to piano keys turned around and taxied down to photographers plugged the burners and a nice vertical climb up to 6000 feet nice rollout at top of climb still on burners, off to Aberporth dropped one item of munition and RTB Warton where he did a number of touch and gos before kissing the tarmac with an inch perfect landing.
Now IPA 1 was good, but out came Tarnish 17 in 3 Sq Typhoon QO-L turned at photo corner ran both engines up individually on dry power plugged in burners rotated before charlie and immediately turned hard and into the circuit flew down runway 26 east to west diving to low level and climbed dry into the clouds. On his RTB into the circuit did a couple of T & Gs on another pass again along 26 held Typhoon in high alpha attitude travelling quite slowly estimate about 200 knots as he flew over photo corner commenced a left hand turn and plugged in reheat what a photo that should make did another couple of pases and landed.
Prior to the 2 Typhoons IPA 1 & QO-L Holty turned up to use his ladders and as luck would have it the base GR4 Tornado ZG 773 taxied out for a sortie this is the one aircraft that proved very elusive to Mark and BAE have treated him to an early Xmas present.
Dusty Bin went out on a sortie with T14. all above Aircraft had landed by 13.30pm and it was time to go when the Runway Caravan RTBd to the tower.
Wx was nice and fine with good sunny periods.Present were myself Mark (his birhday too) Mickey Stix, Steve Repoman, Neville + Gerald Bryan and a few more on the mound whilst the Typhoons were flying there were 10 sets of ladders adjacent to the fence. Just as I was about to leave Charlie Virgin Pendolina Driver and the head of BAE Security paid a curtesy visit.
Tomorrow is forecast to be wet with drizzle so Friday looks like the better day.165816432012

I was delivering xmas presents called in at Warton for a few minutes as I approached I saw MR4A Nimrod rotating off 26 heading west assumed it was ZJ 518. on the flightline were 4 Typhoons IPA 1 IPA 5 BT 5 & IPA 6 on the south side of the airfield were 2 Falcon 20s from FRA which had landed a couple of hours before my arrival I assumed that the sorties start bet 1.30pm & 3.0pm Now this pure conjecture on my part but as RAF Coningsby is closing down from the 19th, December until the 5th, January 2009. its possible than any RAF Typhoons that have been on upgrade or awaiting delivery Tomorrow Frid 19th, might be the last time they could fly into Coningsby.,looking on the Coningsby site there seems to be a difference of opinion as to when CBY will close either late on or lunchtime but I will be at Warton early doors.

Info from a local correspondent that the 2 falcons flew a sortie which involved the 3 Typhoons IPA1 & IPA 5 rotated as a pair and BT 5 did a burner takeoff.

Possibly, I think it depends on this Marham GR4 Tonka that keeps going tech!
You never know, there may be some flying over the festive season... :silent:

You never know, there may be some flying over the festive season... :silent: Monday 22nd, December,08 12.23pm Tarnish 5 in Primer Hawk ZK 019 out on sortie which was cutailed due to worsening visability at Warton landed at 12.48pm. 12.45pm BS 186 Tornado GR4 mission which included tanking with Brize Norton Tanker was cancelled due to obstruction on the runway at Brize, did something fall off Santas Sledge? Dunk to enquire. 15.20pm BS 9 ZJ 918 QO-L taxies out I thought it might have been RTB CBY but it was Tarnish 8 outdoing Typhoon 66 T8 went out on his sortie looking for targets. I wont reveal the distances of the targets suffice it to say it was a long long way. There will be flying tomorrow probably around dusk callsign Barnowl One.

Now I know that you shouldnt post the same Thread twice but on this occasion I think that as it relates to an old Warton Test Pilot Tarnish 6 Craig Penrice and in the spirit of Xmas I will draw your attention to the above site ie Craig Penrice ejects from a Lightning and just place the thread in favourites.

That's it - Merry Xmas! When T17 RTBd to Warton he flew around the estuary at Lytham doing very tight turns engaging and disengaging reheat very impressive did a couple of passes landed and brakes keeping the nose up for dynamic braking.
T5 on the other hand was towing a decoy and he flew very slowly from the west to the east and this time dropped the decoy on the airfield without any problems.
As there was no military flying in the UK we expected more spotters at Warton today apart from somebody in a very smart Honda Type R all the usual suspects were present ie myself Eric, Ken, Mike and Steve.
Tomorrow there will be Test Flying but I dont expect it to go on after lunch. I wonder if they might do a Typhoon delivery or even a First Flight as after the 24th, the Factory closes until the New Year. I wont be in attendance as Im doing my Theatre duties (Panto)3 down four to go soon I will be able to go on Mastermind and answer questions on Cinderella, so perhaps Steve our resident photographer can complete the Warton Log for December 2008.
