A Tornado GR4 has been beating-up RAF Honington today from about 1300hrs onwards and is still doing circuits now at 1405hrs. Does anyone know whether there is a special event on at the base today?

Think there was a Marham a/c that did an approach to Mildenhall so it could have been that one; maybe an ex Honington guy. Runway no longer maintained and slams/seargents mess built on asp too close to runway so don't expect the roar of jets any more. Maybe the odd chopper and of course an air ambulance these days I'm afraid. :(

Saw them come back yesterday afternoon as I drove past the station. Couldn't really concentrate on them as you're supposed to look where you're going when you're driving, very inconvenient but they seemed to be letting down in the eastern HAS area. On a different note they've now demolished the little concrete hut that housed equipment for the old ILS I believe. It used to stand within a little fenced off area, itself also removed, next to the road that leads off from the A134 at the western side of the airfield. I guess it wasn't needed anymore what with the runway not being maintained. Shame, still think that they should have used Honington instead of Lossi. A tonka pilot told me the same a few years ago.

A lot in the mob said the same, especially all us in ATC (the tower not cadets !!!) said when we had the sad task of closing down the tower, waste of a good tower and airfield.
Just a coincidencd that we talked to Mildenhall inbounds and deps !!!!!!!
