Subject: D700 or D2(x)? 2009-04-16, 17:03 |

Thinking about upgrading my Nikon D80 and want to get on the full-frame bandwagon. Can't run to the ideal D3, but have been looking at the D700. However as many will have noticed prices are on the rise, and withe the D700 now knocking on the 2k door wondered if the older D2 or D2x were viable, if rarer, possibilities. Anyone got any thoughts to confuse me further!!!!

The Nikon D2x is not full-frame. It is cropped! Nice if you can find a good second hand D2x or slightly upgraded D2xs. The only downside is that they have been superseeded by the D3 and D700. The ISO capability of the D2x is far outstripped by the D700 and D3. I would suggest the D700.
Have a look on the searchable Nikon forum.

I have a Nikon D2x and the autofocus system is not as accurate or as positive as the some of the more modern Nikons for fast moving aircraft photography

There's a good chance of a new Nikon DSLR soon, within 8 weeks, if you can wait that long.

Cheers Rob Hi Rob, Is that even with the 2.0 firmware update? I've just updated my D2x to this standard and noticed a vast improvement. Even today in total overcast (Typhoon afternoon flat display) I was using a 2 x teleconverter on a 300mm f/2.8. and the lock on was spot on. No light so naff images, but I was really impressed with the autofocus keeping up. TJ
