Well it has taken over 40 years, but now the A46 from Bingham to Farndon is going to be dual carriaged way.
Hopefully these proposals may make life easier, Providing the residents of Longhedge Lane don't ask for a purpose built access gate to be installed for extra security by the crash gate.
Check out the images under the titles Flintham Junction and Syerston Overbridge.

I'm ex 209 Sqn ATC West Bridgford which is twined with JG71 at Wittmund. http://www.209atc.com/history_209.htm We were told this that and the other in regards to Newton, then we were told Newton was closing and then Syerston and that everything was going to be done from either Langar or Tollerton under civilian contracts.

Today sees the trees being ripped up on Farndon to Car Colston section of the A46. Which is the section that Syerston is on. - Quote :
The Scheme would be delivered over five years with advanced works starting in 2011/12 and main works running from 2012/13 to 2016/17. Construction would be carried out in 2 phases. The first phase would be from Newark to Saxondale. The second phase would be from Saxondale to Widmerpool Interchange. We would carry out advance works that would include archaeological excavations, diverting services and an early start on the new railway bridge. Surveys before construction would confirm the presence of any protected species and we would relocate them where necessary. During construction we would minimise disruption to traffic on the A46 and other roads in the area and restrict contractors' vehicles to major routes. The contractor would produce a Construction Environmental Management Plan for the works. This would be used to control construction work, limit the impact on local properties and protect environmentally sensitive areas. During construction, we would liaise regularly with local residents. This morning on the local radio station a representative of the Highways Agency has advised for the next several months for people to avoid that section and use either the A52/A1 or the A60 and cut across country to Newark. The Radio presenter lives in one of the villages effected and has said that he has been using the country lanes to avoid the A46 using the Hawton Road going through Cotham, Shelton, Thoroton, Scarrington, Car Colston and going across the A46 and using the East Bridgford Road to get into Nottingham, only thing is he didn't say how long it took him. Now my mum is from Thoroton and I know that this will be fun and games as there isn't much room for the combine harvesters and other farm vehicles to go down those roads. Therefore I would advise people who use this section of the A46 who go to Waddo and CBY to check out the Highways Agency website or tune into Radio Nottingham for the traffic news. Completion of the dual carriaging of the Farndon roundabout to the Widmerpool junction will be in 2013. As quoted above they are planning to keep some of the original sections of the Farndon to East Bridgford part of the A46 open for village access only, but the representive on the radio did state that there may be times in the day that villages will not be accessible and the residents will have to arrange something with their employers. These villagers have already been consulted and will be advised when those times are approaching. They expect that the average journey from the Farndon to Widmerpool to be cut by 10 minutes, as the other section that was dual believe it or not actually saves the average car driver 5 minutes off their journey time. http://www.highways.gov.uk/roads/projects/4403.aspx

Having a base visit of Syerston on the 11th March, the guy who showed us around said there will be no base visits for atleast a couple of years. He said they will be accepting private visits but they will need early confirmation etc ..
