I'm using a D70 with Nikon 70-300VR just now. Really like it but need to get 'closer' to some things (mainly on the approach at Lossie). Somebody mentioned 'extenders' the other day. Is that also called a teleconvertor?
I'm not familiar with these - are they any good? What will they give me? Will they work with my setup? Which one? etc.................
So many questions.....help, please
Gordy

A 70-300 is more than enough for Lossie, why would you need more ? Unless you want close-ups of the parked aircraft,of course !

Ok Gordy ill answer that one. Basically you are right nikon do a 1.4 a1.7 and i think a 2x Have a look at www.nikon.co.uk Or have a look at Sigma as they will be cheaper but check the fit.You will be looking for Nikon F mount. Lastly check the D70 manual towards the back and it tells you all the extras you can get. Jim.

I think you''l find you loose auto focus if you put a convertor on that lens, and probably find the viewfinder too dark to focus manually.
And I know that my Sigma 1.4x convertor will NOT fit that lens, my wife uses a 70-300vr you see, and I have the 1.4x that i use with a Sigma 100-300 F4 lens, and notice it does slow the a/f on that lens, and it is a matched convertor & lens.
Hope this helps,
Alan

Problem comes when I try and get 'rotation' shots of jets on 05/23 from the 10 end - 300mm just doesn't cut it.

I would also agree that a converter on your lens would not work too well, as sugested, it would considerably slow down the autofocus, and cause focus hunting, if it even worked at all!!! They are really meant for use on prime lenses or compatable zooms with a fast apature of f2.8 HTH 8)

Thanks one and all - looks like a TC for this lens is a 'no no'. :pale:

For future reference see the lens/teleconverter compatibility chart at Nikon.

Kenco and Sigma also produce teleconverters, but you have to check the specifications for compatibility.
