I would say about 300-400, also ive been looking at the jessops website which has the deals on and you can get the cameras with lenses and memory cards.

Don't use Jessops, their staff usually know nothing about cameras and they are expensive.Try http://www.warehouseexpress.com/category/CamerasAndLenses.aspx

Whilst Jessops are good and local , they are also very expensive , my advise listen to the sales persons patter then go away 'to think about it' and then shop on line. For example I was quoted £1,295.00 from them for a Canon 100-400mm IS lens , I managed to track one down for £924.00 including P+P Good links here http://www.camerapricebuster.co.uk/ http://www.camerabox.co.uk/ Although the first one doesn't seem to be working properly at the moment.

Jessops might be local, but they're not good. I bought my 1st digi-camera from them on their credit-card,not a normal credit-card but the staff have to phone a number in Glasgow to get authorisation(which can take an hour,I think it's Clydesdale Securities or a similar name) That was OK,but the camera was £375. The statement arrived at the end of that month,it was for £750 + lots of interest. They'd charged me twice,it took months to sort this out, funnily enough I never use Jessops anymore.

I meant "good and local" in one breath ,not 'good.' and local hence the reason there wasn't a comma between the words. I agree with you about them being, cough, cough, 'not the best' Also a good piece of advice is never touch a stores 'Credit Card', as you can see in the above post from Flaps, they tend to be very tricky little blighters, and will rip mast people off unless you are very carefull

Thanks for your advice, its very useful.. To be fair, there is no 'bad' camera out there, each will do a job.
It may be an idea for you to stick with either Canon or Nikon, as a) a large number of people you will see at airshows and air bases etc will have these, and will be able to give you tips and advice with regard to settings etc b) because of the larger numbers of people using these brands, the lenses and accessories available, both new and used will be more significant than other brands.
If you can get yourself to an airshow or airbases before you decide what to go for, have a chat with those there, have a look at the pics they take, and if they are kind, they may even let you hold the camera, so you can get an idea how they feel, when used with a lens thats suitable for aviation.

yes, imo it's the best vfm entry level body. However, go to a shop & handle different models from different manufacturers as whilst there is no bad current production DSLR they do vary in their ergonomics & what feels comfortable to 1 user may not suit another.
