Hi, I've a question about the runway numbers used at Scampton.
I'm puzzled by the numbers and taxiing permission heard on scanner: The excellent thunder-and-lightnings link (www.thunder-and-lightnings.co.uk/spotting/scampton.html) shows the SW end (K) as 5, and the NE end (C) as 23. Yet, I've heard them say 14 for (K) and 22 for (C)? - Can anyone clear this up, as it's useful to know which end they're taking off from. The windsock doesn't always help.

Scampton's runways are 04 and 22.

Thanks for the reply Goose.
Any idea regarding the thunder-and-lightnings guide: whether it's an error, or they've been renamed?

Probably re-classified. A lot were changed a year or so ago. Magnetic variation changing over time. ;)

It all depends on when the website was created. Runway headings do change. Google Earth currently is using an old image of the airfield with the old 05/23 markings. http://www.paramountbusinessjets.com/charterterms/runway_heading.php '....Since the magnetic poles are constantly changing the magnetic heading for a runway can change. While most of the time the runway heading corresponds directly to the magnetic heading there are times when the magnetic heading and the runway heading vary. Due to the change occurring, a runways heading is determined by either rounding up or down the magnetic heading closest to it. For example: a runway with the magnetic heading of 271 degrees would have a runway heading of 270 degrees and be named runway 27.'
Just type in the International Civil Aviation Organization airport code for the airfield that you are visiting and get the latest info. Scampton EGXP http://www.airport-data.com/world-airports/EGXP-SQZ/ TJ

Thanks for the replies. TJ's links remind me of a suggestion I was going to make on the old FC site prior to Christmas: a section devoted solely to useful links. We all have our favourites, it might be a worthwhile idea to share and categorise them in one resource. What do you think Goose?

I'll have a chat with the other staff members, but we'd be hard pressed to match Howard Curtis's excellent resource "The Airnet Website"

No, but it may be to other members.
It doesn't have to be a collection from scratch, a lot of the work has already been done and exists on various meta-link sites. My proposal would be to collate them into one area of FC, whether they are largely well-known or obscure. This, of course, can always be expanded from members' suggestions. For instance, this week alone I've come across four useful links mentioned in other members' posts. Links, that as the days pass will become buried amongst other posts until they disappear.
