I must have seen at least 8 performance take offs this week, mainly from 29sqdn but one from 11 sqdn did one today as well, is there any reason for the change or is it just part of the new pilots training schedule?

Plus, you would think that each aircraft has to utilise the reheat system on take off with such a frequency that keeps it fully serviceable. Makes sense to me anyway. Aren't reheat take-offs also a little more common when surface temperatures are very cold?

When crews are converting to Typhoon sortie number 2 is a performance take off to demonstrate to the student the power of the aircraft. Which probably explains the high number from 29, and 11 Sqns was quite possibly a pax trip.

You dont need to use reheat regularly to keep it serviceable, as to colder temperatures, I'm no sooty but if I remember right colder temperatures means denser air and therefore greater mass flow and more power from the engine without reheat.
