Has any 1 got the 800 xlt and what do they think of it????
Was thinking of investing in a new scanner and this seems to fit the bill.

I have one, anything you particularly need to know. Not overly impressed, a bit like a base version on the UBC3500XLT but with more memories. Seems prone to breakthrough (like all the Uniden scanners) and I find the audio poor. I have mine connected to an amplified speaker. Like the 3500 use of the programming software is essential

What about the location based scanning feature - does it work well? I have a 3500 XLT and very happy with it so far. I would probably just get another one to use as a base scanner instead of the extra money for the 800XLT if it wasnt really worth it.

Location based scanning is where you can connect a GPS into it and it scans 'local' channels.

It looks like a nice unit but I think another 3500XLT would be more useful to me. It also have more modes too AFAIK. And cheaper!

I recently bought a Uniden UBC-800XLT and also a GRE PSR 293. I find that they are both superb scanners for the money. My PSR 293 came from Maplins at £129.00 and the Uniden from Ebay, a dealer called Xovereign. I paid £239 by making him an offer. It was delivered next day by FEDEX..The Uniden is now mounted in my car on a CB quick release with the sound plugged into the aux socket on the car stereo. I use a mini mag antenna from Maplins and it all works brilliantly. I am pulling in stuff to my car that I have never heard before unless I was closer to the points of broadcast.
Programming the 800XLT is simple using the free software supplied. I had over 300 frequencies aboard in a little over 2 hours. If you find you need to change how you have set up then all you do is overite whats in already, the 800XLT simply deletes and rewrites the new system. If you can get a 800XLT for the same money I am sure you will be as happy as I am. My old scanners were a Radio Shack Pro-63 and an Alinco DJ-X3 both of which I may sell if someone whats to make me an offer.
