Any thoughts on the above lenses? Will be used generally for static shots at Fairford & Waddo airshows.
Regards, Sooty.

18-55mm is ok if you want just a cheap wide angle option, although ive never used the 10-20mm. Have you considered the sigma 17-70mm? Its good, sharp and relatively cheap. I can post some examples if you want?

I have the Sigma 10-20mm in Canon fit and use it on my EOS 40D. It's an excellent lens, but beware of using it at the extreme wide end as things can and do get a bit distorted (i.e. straight lines bent/curved) as with any wider lenses. On canon with a FL magnification of 1.6x, this equates to 16-32mm in 35mm equivalence, I'd be inclined to keep the focal length above say around 12-14mm and up for aviation use unless you want the proverbial banana jet!
I wouldn't have thought the Canon EF-S 18-55 (29mm equiv at the wide end) would have been wide enough, plus this just doesn't compare in build quality to the Sigma, but obviously there's quite a price differential.
I'm please with my 10-20mm and wouldn't hesitate on recommending it, however I will say that I haven't used it on aircraft.

Lot of creative range with the 10-20 . the basic kit lens is OK for snap shots and in good bright light can do alright. the price difference is massive . so you have to look at what you want from them.
to be honest the 10-20 wins hands down for me , even thou the price is high the effects and range and quality are top notch.

Sigma 10-20 is an excellent lens, but make sure you give it a good test to check lens quality, some do suffer from poor calibration.
I have the Nikon version and its excellent for cockpit/interior shots

I am very pleased with the lens. It is prone to distortion at extreme wide, and if you get too close. But if you are aware of this, it's not a problem.
Here's an example from Northolt this year. 16mm on a 30D :
