Hi everyone, got my new slide-scanner today and I have done a silly thing,I think ! I've scanned the 1st 3 slides on JPEG and the rest on TIF. TIF is no good for anything,as far as I can see,is there any way of converting the TIF's into JPEG's without scanning them all again ?

Hmmm?
Well TIF is primarily a lossless format, unlike JPEG which uses compression.
JPEG images compress and degrade the image every time you resize your pictures.
JPEG is only an 8 bit format, so you have a much narrower colour space for viewing and printing, whereas TIF can be saved 16 bit or 8 bit.
The only advantage of JPEG for storage is that it is much smaller than TIF. Most people scan their slides in TIF to archive and then make JPEGS from these for the web. With most image manipulation programmes all you have to do is open the TIF, then go "save as", select JPG in the file format area and then save it as a JPEG. You then normally have further options to select such as "quality". The better the quality you select the better (but the larger) the file will be. Normally you should also save in "baseline optimised" if you`re using Photoshop.
HTH,
John

Cheers John,I think it's going to be a lot easier to re-scan them (only about 40 ) as JPEG's.They go as far back as the Leuchars show in 1969 ! It wasn't my first Leuchars show,BTW !

There's no need to re-scan at all, just open your TIFF files in Photoshop or similar and re-save as JPEGS. As an alternative, you could download Irfanview, which is a great little freeware imaging utility which enables you to batch convert among other things, it will convert all forty of your TIFFs to JPEGs in one go using its batch conversion facility.

I've used Irfanview in various versions since the mid-nineties, it's a brilliantly simple and very useful little utility. Any problems, drop me a PM.
