Heavy signifies both the vortex state (Heavy for large aircraft) and the weight if issued to certain ATC when they signify they can't climb or expedite fast etc.

Flash is a transponder term. The pilot will give ATC or MAGIC a 'flash' to show the controller who they are by flashing the transponder code.

Thanks for that, Rich. I'd always wondered what 'flash' meant since I heard it back in a 1999 audio recording.

At 04:45 the following is heard 'Hammer this is magic can you give me a flash'

USAF F-16CG 88-0550 shot down by SAM on 2nd May 1999 over Serbia. Lt. Col Goldfein was the pilot.

Audio/video hear - tape recovered by the Serbs from wreckage.
