Good Afternoon, After a late-night after-work stop at Stansted for the C-17, I pressed on up to Mildenhall in the hope of seeing a needed C-17 & E-3. Had a brief bit of luck as the freezing fog cleared long enough to allow these sightings: Please note some stand numbers are approximations. Mildenhall 05/02/09 @ 2300hrs (07-7182) C-17 h/s.11 52-3502 KC-135 22nd ARW h/s.8 (164409) E-6 h/s.6 (165831) C-40 h/s.41 (by hangars) (74-1679) C-130 h/s.48/49 area (??-????) E-3 h/s.46/47 area Looking across the airfield from the gate near John's Field the E-3 could be seen to be parked to the left of the visiting C-130 on the hard-stands that run from 46 to 51. However, I couldn't get anything off it. I made a 220 Mile round-trip last night and would really appreciate it if any of the more local lads can put me out of my misery/suspense on the i/d of the E-3. Previous Mildenhall reports from earlier in the day put the broken E-3 & Shuck 80 on h/s 6 & 3 respectively, with no info on the h/s for the Navy E-6, so any further update would be a bloody big help. Cheers, Richard Baily.

Looks like you couldn't see much more than I could at sunset! Your problem is which E3 could you see, earlier all I could see was the nose of a "707!" which might have been any of the three 707 derived a/c. I'm afraid the weather won this time! Cheers Stig.

Yes, the weather was the winner this time. Aside from making an embarrassing typo with the fiscal of the KC-135 as I rushed to file my report before leaving for work again, I also found out that the E-3 I saw was the one that's been living at Mildenhall for the past month or so. Shuck 80 had come & gone before I got there. Living 100 miles away, I just wish there was some way of knowing what's at Mildenhall before it's either gone or almost gone. It's deeply disappointing to give up so much time and spend so much money chasing shadows & half-chances rather than acting upon solid info. Cheers, Richard.
