Hi

Started getting into photography in last 12months, I’m still leaning most times I use my camera

I’ve got a Nikon D40X using a Sigma 70-300mm, not sure if I’m getting to ambitious & carried away to quickly but just feel at times just need bit more ‘zoom’ if that’s correct wording!

Just wondering if anybody could advise another lens or anything for a novice

Cheers

Chiz
There isn't really any one piece of good advice to give you mate, the subject what is best and what to get to improve is really up to you the photographer.

When I first started out I had only the camera body and a kit lens, I used this to go round the local Aircraft museums and took some shots changing settings etc. Then I bought a cheap tripod and tried again and got better results.

Then I practiced panning with the kit lens taking shots of cars on the motorway.

I then went to my local airport which then was Newcastle and put into practice with my kit lens the things I did above taking pics of statics and also aircraft landing and taking off.

After I got used to this I up'ed the stakes and bought a lens similar to your and started the cycle again.

Dont go buying large zoom lenses until you get to grips with the equipment you have and also feel you can move up and deal with the problems of camera shake and camera settings to compensate for weather conditions.

If you look at some of the shots taken by the members of this site they have a lot of equipment but also they have years of experience to know what settings and what lenses will do the job.

Follow what I did and you wont go far wrong, but add this to the steps choose different weather conditions and times of the day.

And for fun try to get a shot of a propeller aircraft and see if you can get the blades to show Blur.

good luck and GOOD SHOOTING

hi all,
im new to the world of cams too. i have taken some fair pics with my fujifilm s8100fd cam which seems like a good box of tricks but when i load the days pics to my comp and zoom in, they are all blury, not pixely but not clear if you know what i mean. i know its not a cannon and everyone seems to use a cannon, but surly it should take clear pics at 10mp. ive even rested it on my car roof and taken shots which seem better but still not like some pics ive seen on here. any advice other then a 16lb sledge hammer?
I think I'll have to meet up with some of you guys at scampy or waddy or cons and maybe you can show me and explain settings etc and what I'm doing wrong.

Not all DVD players can play .avi files.

You may have to burn the disk as a DVD video rather than just burning the files to the disk as avi's

cheers for the info mate.
i know what your saying, but when i use my nero program it converts the avi's and makes them into a project, then when ive finished adding the files it tries to burn but the dvd but stops and says its the wrong kind of disk. i dont know what the right kind of disk is.
Ive got CD-R and DVD-R disk's. is there a special cd or dvd for using for vid clips ?
thanks

hi all,
thanks for the help. ive found my problem.
a loose cable to my dvd writer, all works ok now.
so once again thanks.

Ps: ive noticed that my disapearing post the other day went to another forum.
I dont know how that happened, but ive now gained a reputation of -1.
so I'm now classed as a pain in the butt.
oh well s*^t happens, I'll just shut up and bow out gracefully.
