I am currently having a look around for a decent printer. My budget is up to £100 and I will mainly be using it to print out some of my photos to A4 size so as to create my own portfolio. Any advice would be much appreciated. Dinger.

Hi Dinger. To be honest, if you are looking at printing at A4, I would save up a bit more and start looking at a Canon Printer around £200 - £300. Although Canon do a good budget range for under £100. Obviously you are looking for a printer that produces good quality rather than a printer that also acts as a Scanner, Fax etc etc.. There are many good solo printers on the market, but you also have to look at the cost of ink as well. Here is a 3 page guide to help assist you with the final page offering you a good selection of printers, 2 of which are Canon. Although only 1 of the 2 does A4. http://www.computeractive.co.uk/computeractive/compare/2169527/group-test-photo-printers?page=1 Here is 12 pages of different printers to suit various budgets and reviews of each one. http://www.computeractive.co.uk/hardware/inkjet-printers?page=1 There are many places that sell Original and Generic print cartridges www.pheonixdirect.co.uk www.premierink.co.uk www.neinks.co.uk www.247ink.com www.printbritain.co.uk And of course Cartridgeworld is now found in nearly every major city.

Hi Dinger. if its just a portfolia you're putting together i would be inclined to get them printed by a pro print shop. they will cost a few bob but you won't have to pay out for a really good printer for just a few prints. i wouldn't print A4's for a portfolio either if i was you. look at printing 10 x 8 or bigger but keep to the traditional photo aspect ratio's as it shows photographic knowledge rather than just prints off an inkjet. spend as much as you can afford on the protfolio as its the impact of it that will sell your skills. oh just another quick tip, if your gonna show it to a publisher, create at least one pretend magazine cover, which shows you understand the needs of publishers for spacing and titles etc. hope its of help. regards Geoff ( rubbish photographer )
