Nikon D50 Problem

Dear All - ive encountred a problem with my D50 Today, when taking a photo i keep getting the 'err' message and the mirror sticks in the rasied position. It resets after pressing the button a few times then happens again. I thought there may be some dust that is about and blew some compressed in but no Joy. Im a little sceptical about taking it for repair as i may end up with a hefty bill but would appreciate any help.

I have had the same problem with my D70.At present it is in the shop waiting for a quote.

I have done some digging around and found out that D70's sold in America in 2004 had the same problem on a regular basis and a fair few where sent back to Nikon USA.And were fixed for free.So based upon what it may cost me,will see whether i have to speak to Nikon in more depth.

Question: Have you used your D50 in the wet and rain recently as i have.I thought i had dried the camera off well.So damp may or not be the fault here.
