I've been toying with buying a super zoom lens to replace my current EF 28-135mmIS lens which I've used for about twelve years. I love it, but I want something wider at the short end, but wonder if any of the super zooms will give me such good quality.
My numer one choice is currently the Canon EF-S 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens - has anyone used this lens, what are your opinions?
The alternatives are as follows:
[1] Sigma 18-250mm f3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM - tried this one (bro-in-law has one) just not sharp - poor in comparison to my 28-135is.
[2] Tamron 18-250mm f3.5-6.3 Di II - tried this one, not bad at all, but no stabilisation.
[3] Tamron AF 18-270mm f3.5-6.3 Di II VC LD Aspherical (IF) Macro

another option could be the new 18-135mm ef-s lens due out soon. I appreciate it doesnt have the range of the other 200mm super zoom's but its being released to replace the 28-135mm

Yes, I had spotted that one and it might well be a contender, but at present the price is a bit vague - only the release price of around £530 which is what I paid for my 28-135mmIS back in the mid-nineties before prices dropped. I don't have any problem with the 135mm high end of the 18-135, only the price at present but it is a contender.
Does anyone have experience of the Canon 18-200mm as asked above?

I went ahead and ordered the Cannon 18-200mm lens on Monday evening, it arrived today. I'm delighted with it - took some test images and they're great.
This looks to be a worthy replacement for my trusty long-serving EF 28-135mm IS, I'm going to try and do a side by side comparison of my 18-200mm IS on my EOS 40D alongside my bro-in-law's Sigma 18-200mm OS on his 40D.
