When the shawbury helos are flying locally they always use the following callsigns alpha, bravo, charlie, mike. i was wondering which of these the griffins use or are they all squirell callsigns, also heard what sounded like weasel as well, and afghan. noticed they always revert to a shawbury prefix when talking to cosford, thanks in advance :D

A is the prefix for 705 Sqn, A= Advanced, =Basic(660 Sqn) C=CFS, M=60 Sqn. But these should only
be used either in the circuits at Shawbury, Ternhill, Chetwynd or Sleap, all other transit flights use the Shawbury prefix.
Afghan is a 60 Sqn c/s, Shark,Hamlet Weasel etc all used by 705 Sqn. 660 do not carry out formation flying so they do not have formation c/s.

Any more questions give me a shout :bball:

Beat me to it Scarecrow.

M= Multi engined - ie 60Sqn Griffins. Another formation callsign for 60Sqn is 'Spectre'

You may also hear 'TS1XX' or 'TG1XX' these are Squirrel (TS..) and Griffins (TG...) on test flights following attention. 🎅

Edit: Of course there are the A109s operating as 'WhiskeyXXX', wonder what the W stands for? :P
