Hi guys,

I'm thinking about upgrading my D40 for either a D60 or a D80 - do both of these cameras have the autofocus motor in the body or not?

With the D40, you need to spend a bit extra to get a lens with the AF motor actually in the lens, and they tend to be about twice as expensive as the non AF lenses!

TIA

Steve

The D80 has a built in AF motor however the D60 dosen't. As far as I know the only D-SLRs that don't have a built in AF motor are the D40, D40x and D60.

I'd say go for the D80, its a fantastic camera and I won't be getting rid of mine any time soon.

HTH,
Mike

May be a little on the steep side, but if it's really worth it, I'm sure I could stretch that far. What would the Canon equivalent of this spec DSLR be?

I've never used a D60 so can't really compare it myself, however the D60 was a entry level camera so you'd assume the D80 is better.

I think the 40d is the D80 equivalent, but i'm sure a Canon user will be along to confirm that.

Yes, Canon EOS 40D is pretty similar in spec to the Nikon D80
