On Wednesday evening at about 20:37hrs I heard jet engines which I knew were not GR4s, but couldn't identify the aircraft. I rushed up to my landing to see a pair of F-15Es screaming up from the sea to pass about 50m to the west of my cottage! As I'm about 30m above sea level I estimated the second Eagle was about 35m as he climbed over the cliff (the point at which is lower than my cottage). I could see clearly the green reflective light from his HUD! The pair headed due south towards the Cairngorms and, no doubt, home. Even though there was no way I could get a shot, even with the camera set up under the window (GR4s frequently fly over or across), it was inspiring and very welcome.
Did anyone else in the area pick up on these rare visitors? And does anyone know from whence they came - ranges at Tain or Garvie Island, or just low level through Sutherland/Caithness?

Just saw this post albeit late. I live near the Tain range and saw the f15s around this date in the afternoon on bombing run circuits over the range. Quite a sight and the drone of the gun is one that sends a chill down the spine. ;)
