It is with sadness that the Ministry of Defence has confirmed the death of Sergeant Stuart Millar and Private Kevin Elliott of The Black Watch, 3rd Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland. The soldiers were killed as a result of an explosion believed to have been caused by a rocket-propelled grenade when they were attacked by insurgents whilst patrolling on foot in Babaji District, Helmand Province on the morning of Monday 31 August 2009.

This is getting too frequent and I agree with Dunk, go back to carpet bombing. Ian in Skegness Carpet bombing what exactly? The Soviets tried it and what did it achieve? The Taliban use the local populace to hide behind and thousands of innocent deaths from carpet bombing isn't going to win the support of the Afghan populace.
I appreciate that it is a pure emotional knee-jerk reaction, but it simply isn't going to happen. NATO hasn't made the mistake of getting into the Vietnam style body count mentality, but think how many personnel that the Taliban are losing on a daily basis.
Have a read of the recent books from the front line detailing the close-air support missions. The dedication and professionalism of those personnel have prevented countless numbers of civilian deaths though skilled use of their equipment. There is no way that any of those aircrew would have anything to do with 'carpet bombing' or support such an idea.
