Normally, DATIS is not a frequency I listen to, as usually it's of no particular interest to me and it's repetitive nature soon gets very dull. Although, in relation to the displays at Coningsby, it can be a very useful broadcast for a heads up. From my own experience and after reading the evidence of active members, for which I'm very grateful, it appears the meaning of all Bingo & Bingo+10 calls are solely fuel status based, even at Coningsby. :) However, there is a relationship involving the Bingo+10 calls, in that: during the display season, many (if not most) of them relate to upcoming display times. So, if for example: a Bingo+10 call is made for 8am or 1pm, the chances are that it's been called due to a forthcoming Typhoon display. Any 45 minute periods will almost certainly be because of scheduled BBMF displays. The purpose of starting this thread is to provide up-to-date information for people who wish and are able to get to a BBMF or Typhoon display on the same day as the broadcast. For those at the Base and debating whether to go home because of poor weather, or it's a slow day, they can tune into DATIS to see whether it's worth hanging around. Limitations: 1 - It's only of use on the day, which severely limits any planned trips. Because the broadcasts begin just before 8am (local time), the further you are from the base the less likely you are to see the early displays. Unless you're actually there or live in Coningsby, the Typhoon's 8am slot is out. 2 - In order for this to work, it relies totally on the participation of members who are within Coningsby's DATIS range to log and post any Bingo call times here. Preferably, the earlier in the day the better. Although updates are definitely useful.
"RULES": 1. No judgement will be made of members' culpability for published times. :) - Weather conditions change, emergencies, etc. 2. All times to be posted here as local times.
3. I would prefer to keep this thread clean, devoted to published times and feedback of first-hand experiences at the Base to tie the times together. Anything else to do with the subject, please post on 'Bingo Revisited.'
For those willing to get involved - Coningsby's DATIS frequency is 280.30
Finally, PLEASE contribute - Nothing will happen unless members post times! .

Interesting day today. The afternoon Bingo+10 calls were still being announced when we arrived at 11.40am to low cloud. At 1pm no Display Typhoon, but surprisingly it taxied out and took off at 1.20pm. He did a couple of circuits and asked to talk to his supervisor, who gave him permission for a display. The damp air gave great "fluff" on the tight turns, and the grey background really showed off the burners.
After the show the DATIS went dead and we heard three pilots asking if it was working. Mid-afternoon heard the following: "All Bingo Displays are cancelled." This is a direct quote, they actually used the words, Bingo Displays. Although the cloud cleared slightly, the reason for the BBMF cancellation was probably the high winds.
Worth hanging around for though for the three Harriers departing, followed by the three F-16s that Kevin's already mentioned. .

Hi Paul,
I didn't think the Typhoon would appear. If I hadn't stopped to speak to Kevin (Milky01) I would have missed it. The flat display is very impressive and especially with all that moisture in the air!
Fri 17 Apr All times local Runway 07R 0900-0945 1130-1215 1300-1330 (Typhoon) 1345-1430 1600-1645 Weather at the moment (0845Z) completely overcast. If no improvement in weather it is looking good for another flat Typhoon display with lots of vapour! TJ

Typhoon Practice Displays From Paul (Jaguarfarewellday - UKAR)
'The Typhoon team are planning to fly two full practice displays on the 27th April using both an - am + pm slots ( subject to weather constraints). My understanding is there will be NO work-up from 19-24th April due to Leuchars deployment. Paul'

Just checked my videos from yesterday. The display Typhoon was back on Base yesterday; got some footage of him taking off very loudly at 4.20pm. Hope he's here the rest of the week for anyone lucky enough to get over.
Edit: Apologies - The time was 5.20pm local, my camcorder hadn't been sent to BST. .

Was this BL then, as it was noted at Leuchars with it's 29 sqn counterparts? Either it flew back to fulfil the display aircraft responsibility (or did it before leaving) or another jet is being used. Can anyone clear this up?

Yes, it was BL. It came out sharpish and departed with passenger. I was surprised to see it. He didn't display at Coningsby yesterday.
