Court ruling may see diabetics totally banned from driving.

At the moment there is a very interesting court case taking place with the backing of European Union Rules.

Basically a diabetic car driver collapsed at the wheel hit and killed a woman in Bristol in 2007.

The driver was charged with causing death by dangerous driving.

The parents of this woman are looking at having the licences of car drivers and riders who have medication for diabetes or other medication for long term illnesses taken off them.

At the moment they have a very good case with the argument in their favour, because Diabetic HGV, Train and Bus drivers had their licences taken away from them in September 2000, and that any vehicle can still kill no matter of it's size or weight.

The number of people in the UK with Diabeties of all types in the UK is staggering.

Over 42,000 people were newly diagnosed between 1996 and 2005 with over 1000 of those reliant on Insulin or tablets.

As of figures taken this year there is 2.5 million people in the UK with diabetes, and an estimated 1 million that have not been diagnosed fully.

If this does happen that's alot of vehicles taken off the road.

Where will they draw the line , people with colds ?? As you all know you close your eyes when you sneeze, so if your eyes are closed you can't see, can't see , you don't know where you are going, don't know where you are going, you're going to hit something !!!!!

Always remember PC colleague,i was with collapsed whilst driving at the wheel in west London after having a hypo and i put out the call for an Ambo,and literally had the whole of the Met turn and our lot turn up as they though it was an urgent assist.
He was taken to hospital and made a full recovery.He had told everyone of his condition and he rides a m/c.
