A short time ago just after 5pm what looked like a pair of RAF Tornado GR.4s flew over Edinburgh City Centre - I saw them over the Haymarket Area. Now I know The Tattoo is on but this was just after 5pm and the Tattoo isn't till 9 (or is it?). Is this a practise?

ZA548/040 Snake1 9 Sqdn marks and ZA405/014 Snake 2 unmarked. Both on block 33 at 1830. I'm not sure if both are doing the night flypast or not.
This morning we had VC-10 XV107 RRR2118 not read off by me. Info from the BAA Computer.

I doubt they were performing the Flypast This Evening as the 2 Tornado GR.4s which went over were Callsign GIBSON..
Any idea how long the 2 at Edinburgh are staying for?

Perhaps not, nothing like being in the practice and then a night on the town, courtesy the Tattoo organisers though, hic , hic, hic

Just as long as they behave themselves when they're out, unlike certain English and Scottish Footballers - no names but they know who they are..........
I'm sure pilots know how to behave after all they've got to fly an expensive Jet Aircraft........

Sorry I'm new, so I don't know if this is the right place to ask - apologies in advance if not - but I have been thinking of getting a scanner soon. I was wondering which frequencies you've heard the Tattoo flypast aircraft on?
Also, is anyone from Edinburgh able to tell me what the airband reception is like in the city centre? I imagine it varies depending on buildings etc., but any pointers would be most appreciated!

Any flypast will almost certainly be talking to the airport, try
121.200 | EDINBURGH APPROACH | 128.975 | EDINBURGH RADAR | 118.700 | EDINBURGH TOWER | 130.400 | EDINBURGH APPROACH |

They tend to use 128.975 as it is a quiet frequency. The Tattoo Director listens out as the Tornado(s) make 60, 30 and 15 second calls. Listen to 121.2 as well though. City centre receptionis a bit variable as you say. Mainly because of the buildings. Depends on where you are of course. Dave

Thank you very much for the information! Got a nice view of the tonight's two GR4s from North Bridge again. Holyrood Park is another place I'd like to try spotting them from, but I think they'd look quite a bit smaller from there...
