Newcastle Airport - How popular is it with FC members

The recent airshow weekend has attracted many FC members to Newcastle Airport giving opportunities to meet up.

I was just wondering how often local members go up to the airport outside of the airshow weekend, basically so that I can gauge whether it's likely I'll get chatting to you. I know military activity is not guaranteed but I was surprised how often we do get movements.

I'll get the ball rolling...

I try to get up there atleast twice a week during my lunch hour, sometime between 12 and 2, but definitely only when 25 is in use. I enjoy watching anything flying!!

I also try to get up there at the weekend as often as I can.

I have an FC "remove before flight" key ring on my camera bag!!!

Hopefully I'll bump into some of you up there, or at Albermarle over the coming week.

I always go up on Airshow weekend and also for The Great North Run. Had a few trips to Otterburn range when low flying exercises taking place, infact I'm driving up there this week at the first sign of a nice day ! Occasionally pop up to Newcastle on a regular day but fast jets are my main interest. Possibly travelling to Leuchars in September. Will be keeping an eye on this sight for any rumours of fast jets landing at our airport in future.

well seing as i work at the airport i tend not to visit much on my days off, but the airshow weekend is always great and spend the time airside on the ramp mainly.

the belgian display jet is still here and we currently have a vc10 on the ground also

Since joining,and reading the various posts on the forum,it appears that many members
collect 'civvies' too,like me !
Newcastle is somewhere i will certainly call (when i can !!)

I call in to the lay-byes at the 25 end quite often.
I work in Newcastle & live in Morpeth so I can just about claim it's on the way home Whistle

Like others on this post I am happy to watch most types of planes - although it is easy (no pun) to get tired of a certain airlines orange jets.

We do seem to get military overshoots most days - I guess due to the proximity of the ranges to the NW of the airport, so it may be worth a visit for FC members.

I mostly go to photograph anything slightly new/different & post them on airliners.net - there are some of my military Newcastle shots on there including 4 related to this years Sunderland airshow.

May well catch you there one day soon !
