Just heard a formation cleared to land on 18 grass. Think it was Vectis? formation but not sure - does anyone have any details? Also i didn't even realize Lyneham had a grass runway?

Could it be Gliders and Microlights Rick? For the last few years at Familes days at Lyneham, they have had gliders all over the place. Using 18/36. It could be Choppers? But sure isnt a calsign I've heard before.

My nan just told me 2 light Aircraft just flew over heading for Lyneham in formation. My dads just checked his book for calsigns and " Vectis" comes under an Islander. I think it's come from the Britten Normon place where they make them.

i dont ever recal seeing anything land on the grass at lyneham. Apart form the odd Chopper, and thatw as a wasp if i recall correctly. To be honest i cant see anywhere that would be atall smooth enough, or free of Signs/markers, to a llow fixed wing aircraft to land.

Islanders especially would need smooth grass runway, what with the limited amount of prop/ground clearance.

Yup quite true Liam. Wouldnt be a reason as to why Lyneham needs a grass runway anyway. Hmm must of been those light GA things .... They did park on the grass last year if I remember rightly though. But were using Runway to take off.

If i remember right - Lyneham gliding club lands on the grass between the pan and 18/36 so i'm thinking its there but either way he definitely said 18 grass.
