No it's much cheaper to buy from the big supermarkets then all the hassle of brewing your own. thou i do see the fun in it .
My father many years ago used to brew his own. with all kinds of brew\'s going on.
Marrow Rum being a good 1. with large Marrows hanging in the old coal house with the top cut off and hollowed out, filled with different sugars and slipped into a pair of my mothers Tights, then left for the fermenting and the liquids to drip from the bottom in to a bucket. .

I had a bash at home brew a few years ago, loved the smell of the brewing beer. Always seemed to manage to flood the kitchen when cleaning and sterilizing everything though. Had a few good results, it used to work out reasonably cheap, but I did used to get a little bored with the same thing over and over again. I tend to go to Majestic Wine warehouse and supermarkets for home consumption. Morrisons have a Ashes Special ale at £1.00 be 500ml bottle at the moment.

Whilst I have never made my own, my dad makes a few batches a year.
He always gets his kits from Wilkinson. They are pretty cheap and the lager isnt bad. You do have to put a drop of lemonade in it however...

My initial outlay was 70 pounds (keg, fermetation barrel, malt and sugar)so this works out at 1.75 a pint(40 pints).Next batch will work out at 35 pence a pint which is a huge saving. P.S I've found Pretty Polly tights give a smoother brew
