The Red Arrows brighten up "desolate" landscape: Well, fitting amongst the joys of RIAT came the Reds to the north, and what a show. Despite some awful weather elsewhere in England, it was perfect sun, blue sky and cumulus right up to the start of their dispay. Then, right on cue, in came thick cloud for the first half of the display before all cleared and back came the better conditions for a lovely end to the display. And how nice to be able to stand under the display line amongst the smoke and the fumes, with the wonderful "desolate"* landscape of the Otterburn ranges in the background (* as described by Red 1 as they flew in). Roll on Sunderland next weekend (rain looking possible!) and the Apaches following that - it's almost busy times for us too up north (no jealousy of course!!) I left after the Reds, but I gather the weather turned again, and the RAF Falcons didn't manage the jump, and the BBMF Dakota only managed a brief overflight.
Apologies for the variable pixel quality - not sure whether it's due to the joys of Picasa WebAlbums upload process or due to mechanical failure of the photographer brain! It'll give you an idea of how bright it was up north though!
