Google Free Photoshop Plugins or Richard Rosenman and download his Solid Border plugin. It is simple to use. Also, if you use Photoshop then use the stroke under the edit dropdown list. The image will have to be on a layer. If you have an 8x6 image for instance, under file click new, in the next dialoge box make you canvas say for 10x8 at the same dpi as your 8x6, press ok. You will have a blank 10x8 canvas, you can use a paint bucket to change colour. Drag the 8x6 into the new canvas and position it. Then click edit, stroke, and then select about 15 on the stroke dialoge box and press ok. You should then have a border. Play about a bit to suit yourself. Dont forget to flatten the image when you finish. Skype me sometime and I can go through it with you.

It's no problem mate. If you get stuck, send me a note or email, if you are on Skype then you can call me for free.

In photoshop you can also 1. Open your file 2. Select the "Rectangular marquee tool" from the tools menu 3. Press Ctrl and A at the same time and it will put a marquee round your image 4. Then go "Edit" and then "Stroke"
You will need to play around with the stroke settings to get the right colour / thickness etc but this will give you a solid border.
Just remember to do the stroking on a new layer that is positioned above your photo, then you can delete it if not to your liking.
Personally... not a fan of borders on photos... each to their own though hey!
