My first bit of advice would be to get yourself to an airfield and fire of a few shots... even if they are not mil ac, just to practice and see what your initial attempts are like. There is no substitute for practice.
Once you have done that for a bit, get down you local mil airfield and then post some pics and ask for some tips... without seeing what you can do it's a bit difficult... but digi cameras mean you can shoot and shoot!!!

Also always try and keep the sun behind you, if you shoot straight in to the sun all you will get is a black silhouette

Having just had a look at the interweb at the camera, it looks like a pretty good starting kit but you will have to be relatively close to the subject, so don't be surprised (or disappointed) that shots of airborne ac have a small subject.
I would also advise getting to a museum to practise on static aircraft as practise for an airshow... where you have that one chance...

Thirdly, make sure you have had a really good read of the manual. I know that is not what us blokes do, but these cameras are jolly clever but very complicated...
If you don't have a full manual, download one from the net ... have a look here!!!
You will have to click on the bit in the middle that says Brochure/manuals... if you can, print it out (I know it's big) but it is so much easier to read on paper. One of my biggest grips with new cameras is that the full manual comes on cd/download and not on paper!!!!

Oh, and try to use some punctuation in your posts... one of my pet hates is just typing a sentence without full stops, capitals etc, even if the spelling is a bit off, at least it is easier to read.

Personally I use the viewfinder... WYSIWYG on an SLR type (to a certain extent) and it is easier to see in some lighting conditions...

Viewfinder all the way. Easier to get shots "on the level"
