I ride a SV1000 K3
In response to the number plates.
UK law states that if you are resident in the UK for more than 1 year, then you must apply for UK plates.
As of January this year, any UK registered car with number plates that are not carrying the legal font (Arial) and the correct spacing and height of letters, the owner will be fined £60 per plate, and 3-6 points on their licence.
Those who get 6 points in the first 2 years of being issued a licence from provisional or having being issued a UK licence from an international licence will now get banned, and have to take a retest that lasts 2 hours. Anyone who gets a minor fault receives an automatic fail. However the automatic failure was deemed unfair.
For years motorcyclists have had to suffer getting pulled over with having small number plates and loud exhausts, whilst car drivers have been able to get away with it. Well this year the worm has turned. And since January this year us bikers were allowed to use bus lanes !!!

Currently I have a 2003 Chrysler PT Cruiser CRD limited and the other half has a Ford Focus Have just sold my beloved Ex army 1980 109" landrover. Couldn't afford to run 3 vehicles anymore. Im hoping to sell the Chrysler and and buy a Landrover Discovery in the next month or so.
I used to be a part of the UK's biggest PT cruiser club!

As someone who has worked at Lode Lane and at Longbridge I wouldn't recommend you getting a Discovery, especially if you have kids.
Because of the design of the rear seat, many baby seats do not fit well. Therefore they fail in accidents where Discoveries are hit from behind or on sides towards the rear.
Also Discoveries are prone to rolling over as well when hit on the side.
ALL of the big dealerships were aware of this and LR got sued big time.

I dont have and not planning on having kids anytime soon, so that isnt an issue. Those discoverys looked like earlier TDi models, I'd be after a later TD5 2003 onwards, most of which have ACE to prevent bodyroll. which would hopefully take up some of the impact. Obviously any car is capable of turning over in an impact. The PT cruiser has a pretty crap saftey rating, and I wouldnt fancy being invloved in a crash in one.
There arent many other cars I'd consider. The Nissan Xtrail is one, but there are lots of horror stories about low milage cars eating turbos for breakfast, and the intercoolers are terrible and leak causing £££ of damage. I know Discos have thier problems also, but most of those are self fixable with a bit of knowledge.
I need something big enough to carry the dog and camping equipment. I need something to lug coal and wood around in winter and I need something to cope with the ever increasing floods. we are having down here. I will also be moving into the country soon where we shall be setting up a smallholding, so I can invisage bales of straw and hay being carted around in the back too. At the same time, I want something comfortable. The Disco seems to tick all those.
