That would be an SD card then. Many photographers go for the Sandisk Extreme cards, plenty to choose from, size and speed but a good average would be something like this. http://www.play.com/Electronics/Electronics/4-/8849846/SanDisk-8GB-Extreme-III-SD-Memory-Card/Product.html

Sorry, but this is wrong.
197Cup said that he is using a Canon 400D, which uses CF cards.
I only ever use Sandisk extreme 3's, all came from www.play.com and would thoroughly recommend both the card and supplier.
Obviously the file settings on your camera would determine capacity, for instance shooting RAW would result in fewer shots on the card due to the file size, I shoot large JPEGs (Don't shoot RAW, can't see the point seeing as I am lazy when it comes to editing.) and with my 40D, I can shoot over 1000 JPEGs with my 4GB cards.

Another vote for play.com from me. I ordered 2x Sandisk 4GB Ultra II cards from them a few weeks ago and they were delivered the next day via citylink delivery.

When the 450D came out, and had gone down the SD route, I wondered if that was the new direction Canon were taking with use of their memory cards, since then, they have reverted to CF cards.

Not quite - When the 450D replaced the 400D the move was made from CF to SD, however only in the entry level range, i.e. 450D, 1000D and now 500D. The prosumer and pro ranges, i.e. 40D, 50D, 5D, 5D Mk.II and the 1D/1Ds series all retain the CF/CFII card.
