I've got a 40D at the moment but fancy an upgrade. I don't see much of an improvement in going to the 50D. Should I go for the 5D Mk II? Has anyone else done it, and has it been worth it?
Thanks in advance for your opinions.

I had a go with this camera at focus 09 at the NEC photographing models. And even as a Nikon user this camera is amazing.Great feel.Easy to navigate the menu.if i had the pennies i would be out there getting one.I have mentioned this before to other members of the team at various locations. JG71

The main lenses that I use are both CANON- 100-400mm F4.5-5.6L IS USM and 28-135mm F3.5-5.6L IS USM. I imagine that they would be "good enough" to put in front of the body? SB

The 100-400mm certainly will be due to the fact its "L" glass. The 28-135 is classed as a medium quality lens so shouldnt really give you any problems. Obviously the main difference will be losing the 1.6 crop factor of the 40d.

I am hoping that images would be brighter with the full sensor to allow faster shutter speeds. I am also hoping that if I shoot large enough format images that I'd be able to crop them in Photoshop anyway? Am I right in thinking this?

SB If you mean will the more MP's mean you can crop more and keep the detail then yes you can. It really depends on how quickly you want a new camera and your budget. Rumours suggest the 1D mk4 will be out august to september time, which means prices stand a good chance of dropping a little

There is another option.
Go for a 50D (therefore keeping the 1.6 crop), have the 40D as a second body, and have money left over to go towards more lenses.

We've got a 5D mkII at work that we use for PR stuff and its lovely. The viewfinder seems bigger and brighter, the large screen on the back is a big improvement and the results at higher ASA are hard to tell apart from 100 ASA, but most of all the large file size gives huge flexibility for crops/large outputs. I wish Santa would read my letters.
