The Mound and the field at the eastern end of the runway are a risk of being gated and fenced ,Due to people walking on crops and
not parking so they have access to THEIR FIELDS.

Be warned.

Cheers Kevin.

Hi Kevin,

What bl**** idiots!

Good to see Steve moving them on though; Spotterwatch really does work!

(I really really should join, I'm at Coningsby enough lol)

Will you be around during the Yank deployment at all? I should be around on the Thursday before Waddo at the very lease. :)

Can I just add a plea to anyone who reads this and who does walk on crops or park illegally or prop ladders on fences....please pack it in! You're going to ruin it for the rest of us who do it properly! Mad

I had the pleasure of meeting Kevin and being stood with him on the mound when the 2 chaps on ladders were spoken to,,,what does worry me is while 1 of the chaps put his ladders away and used the mound,,the other with dark hair after about an hour propped his ladders back up the fence grrrrrrrr.I really dont understand these people,,was my first trip to CBY and i found the mound to be great for pics and found no reason to start chucking ladders up the fence.
I just hope for the locals sake that these people are not regulars and there actions dont spoil for it others but i feel time isnt on the responsible spotters side.

Thanks again Kevin for a great day,,great info and a great chat

Does anyone know who he is? Can you edit your picture Milky01 to see if we can name and shame him?
As well as possibly ruining it for everyone else, his actions after being warned could be regarded as a blatent security / terrorist threat.

I would hope and pray that our members have more sense than this.

Please however do not take the law into your own hands.Call the authorities and let them deal with it in a fitting manner.

Now there's a thought. Armed military coppers taking him down, and away in handcuffs would stop him doing it in future, might put others off too! Secret

I am probably being even more stupid than usual, but I'm a bit puzzled by this thread. Are we saying that any use of ladders at Coningsby is unacceptable? Or just at the Mound? In my opinion, it is very difficult to get decent photos at Coningsby without the use of some sort of ladder. I have been guilty of using a ladder in the Mound area in the past because the position at the corner of the fence gives good shots of aircraft taxiing out from the HAS complex. My unwritten rules at Coningsby - or indeed at any other base - are (a) place ladder beside a fence, never against it, (b) park sensibly, without blocking vehicle access, even if this means parking a distance away and walking, (c) never walk on a field which has crops in it, and (d) obey any notices at all times, whether they are official or hand-written "private land" notices. These have always served me well in the past. However, I would like clarification. I would hate to think that I am causing problems, or screwing things up for other enthusiasts.

I believe it's to do with leaning ladders against fences, leaving litter, walking through crops and the lighting of a fire behind the mound.
Your rules are what is expected of all sensible spotters/photographers and I'm sure we all agree with you.

I've never stood on the mound,so I don't know if standing on steps is OK or not,but I'm sure it's fine unless it's busy and then you might be blocking someone else's view ????

I started this thread some 2 yrs ago on the old FC it started at the mound end as someone that is still on FC put his ladders up on the fence thus starting all sorts of problems.

The Guys on the Base just dont like ladders been put up on the Fence end of story BUT they dont mind at all to steps along side of the fence Clap

As for the rest walking through the farmers crops well thats a NO NO Opps we the locals have over the yrs managed to get the farmer to leave a very good tractor lane along the 25 end field, BUT I have noticed that even cars are been parked in the field as the farmer cannot get into his other fields.

Ie room for 3 cars but last time I was in there 6 cars blocking his access to the fields SO to be fair Myself and Kevin know the farmer we have tried our best over the last few yrs, TOO GET HIM TO LET YOU ALL IN HIS FIELD.

SO its upto you either park so he has access to his field and dont walk on his crop or he will block you ALL from going in there and pick your litter up before leaving.....

I know its always the small minority but thats all it takes these days YOU HELP the farmers around coningsby THEY WILL HELP YOU Thumbs Up

SO its upto you guys if the GATES GO UP you have only yourselfs to blame

That's the code I and most other people follow too mate. The best way for us all to stamp out the infringements of the 'rules' is to challenge those who transgress together.
Whilst the majority do it right, you'd hope that we, the genuine enthusiasts will keep our viewing areas, but if the minority numbers grow this summer (especially when the F15's are here), then the risk of losing privileges based on goodwill and good conduct will probably be most at risk. I'd say - if you see someone breaking the rules - grab a couple of others and challenge them politely but firmly.

S'what i think anyway.

The official Coningsby spotter watch guidlines are as follows:-

If you use step ladders, please do not lean them against the fence line, you will cause damage to the fence.

Please pick up any litter, even if it not yours, as this may cause damage to the aircraft and possibly cause loss of life.

Please refrain from walking across the fields , as this causes damage to the farmers crop.

If you come across any damage to the fence line please contact one of the numbers on the front of this card.

Please enjoy spotting and report anything you are unsure of.

We appreciate your assistance and hope we can assist you in the future.

SIMPLES...!!!!

And can I personally ask all of you to get in touch via PM to Iskra and join The Spotter watch scheme, the more the merrier, the more of us that tell them, the sooner these pecker heads will get the info into their systems, and the better for us all.

Sorry to say that the same two (Germans) were there again on Friday and one was still insisting on using a huge step ladder leant right on the fence supported by the top barbed wire.

He spent most of Friday afternoon sunbathing in the field at the 27 with his ladder up on the fence like this. He also seemed to think it was rather fun to bring said steps back to the approach, erect them in front of everyone else there and stand 20ft in the air for God knows what reason.

Its a great shame but hopefully Steve and the RAF Police will have realised by all these mails who the culprits were; certainly not locals.

As for parking, well what can you say. Just spent today watching the Queens birthday flypast and people were double parking on the 27 end on the busy road main. They just don`t give a damn about the future and other people, never mind getting someone killed.

Some of them are on this forum as well and should know better.
