This time at Waddo i am going to have a go at shooting in RAW, on one of the days anyway. Any hints/tips,or do i use normal settings like aperture/shutter priority? Will be using D80 and Bigma. Also have Elements 6 on PC.Will that be ok?
Thanks in advance, Sooty.

Shouldnt be a problem. Elements 6 might not let you open the RAW files straight off the camera. If this is the case you can download an add-on to allow you to do so, or convert the RAW files using the Nikon Software (i assume Nikon has something that will allow you to do this, I know Canon does). Photo settings should just be the same as if you were shooting in JPEG (thats what I do and it works for me! ) Ben

Big memory card or lots of small ones, not sure if you know, but you dont get so many pics shooting RAW as you do shooting in Jpeg

Biggest hint/tip - Do not wait untill Waddington to shoot RAW, go to your local field and practice, practice and more practice. Elements 6 will be ok for the D80, if it is not on your copy then download the Camra raw file from adobe.

Your actual shooting/capture settings don't come into the reckoning. RAW is simply a method of saving the image taken with all data intact rather than in jpeg format where the camera decides for you what aspects of the picture's data you may not need and saves that reduced amount of data so although the picture will look the same and you can edit the image, the degree to which you can change things such as exposure / fill light / shadows etc is far more critical in terms of the outcome than it is with RAW. A really daft analogy... JPEG: You kill a cow, a butcher prepares it for you and gives you back the best cuts and disposes of the rest. RAW: You kill a cow and take it home so you can cut off exactly what you want, the best cuts, tripe, the skin for leather etc etc... I said it was silly
