I was looking a those the other day, and I'm thinking about buying one of these... iTrip - if I do, I'll let you know how I get on.
Never looked for a cradle though, so can't help there.

The iTrip that MikeB is looking at is good as I've had 1 all year in my car and its good. The only problem was that it was my mates and he took it back so I'm back to CDs now

I've had an iTRIP for 3 years and have basically given up on it for long trips. I have always struggled to find frequencies that don't get inteference as soon as you drive a further 10 miles.
Check whether your cd player will accept an auto changer, you can usually get a phono jack converter for these.

http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_230737_langId_-1_categoryId_165635 I would strongly advise against it.
With one of those attached to the dashboard, it tells any opportunist thief "ooh, they have an ipod, wonder if it is in the glovebox" and regardless of where you keep it, you will have one less window in the car.
FM transmitters work well, I'd suggest going down that route.

What "bad press" is that then?
A friend has one of these - Dixons Site - and it works a treat.
Don't need one personally as I have an old tape stereo in the car so can use one of the tape adaptors.

Does anyone know what freq range the iTrip can transmit on? - The tech spec says "US" next to the freq range - I don't know if theres a UK version?

You won't get this with any FM transmitter. The transmitter power simply isn't strong enough. Bass frequencies are not reproduced well in the FM range so the sound is always hollow on your commony garden stereo. Defo no good for your drums and bass!! If your car has a standard size unit then, in my opinion, you're better of getting a cheapish unit with an aux input. I've never bothered because I have a non standard unit and 2 cars.

this unit that im getting fitted gets directly pluged in to the stereo rather than having to serch for a freq to play on.

Why don't you just get a Country and Western band to play in the back seat of the yellow beast ?

Mike I used the US range, it's just slightly wider than UK. My iTRIP was from the States before ou could buy them over here and "technically" worked fine.

Just get a DAB radio that plugs into the car, and tune into Planet Rock. Problem sorted. Or if you have any pound shops, buy one of those tape thingys with the 3.5mm jack and work from that.

I've got the tape with the 3.5mm jack and it works a treat, I did try the cradle with the FM transmitter and charger and thought it was awful, the sound quality was appalling and it ended being launched somewhere!!
