Sorry if this has been mentioned elsewhere, but I believe that there's going to be a total of 6 T2's at Valley, and as they take delivery of two new ones, then the oldest two will head for storage, and so on.....

I take it that as the T1's fall apart and become useless a T2 will be brought out of storage to replace it?

The T2's will spend a couple of weeks at Valley being flown by the six qualified pilots, they will each fly around 15 to 20 hours on shakedown flights and if any faults are found they will go back to Warton, if they are passed fit for purpose then they will be flown to Shawbury for between 15 to 18 months storage.
In turn new examples will be flown to Valley by Warton crews and the centre tanks removed and stored until RAF pilots are cleared to fly with them attached later this year.
The worst Hawk T1's will not be withdrawn until 2011, although one or two have already fallen by the wayside with one example ear marked for a gate guardian at Valley if funding can be found to remove the Hunter and replace with the Hawk.
The Hawk T1 [a total of 40 airframes] is likely to be still in service along with the Red Arrows until 2018 when hopefully a replacement will have been decided upon
regards DT

The two T2's arrived as singletons approx an hour apart.
On another subject. Hawk T1 XX235 diverted in with a birdstrike back on the 28th May as 'VYT16', it has a substantial hole in the leading edge of the starboard wing. The hole is close to the wing root and air intake. The general opinion is it isnt going anywhere soon and may not leave at all, heading straight to storage.

i think xx168 is making its way to shawbury by road either today or tomorrow. The team arrived last night.
Word is that the wing from 168 will make 235's birdstrike repairable.

ZK 018 & 015 departed for Shawbury on the 16th June for storage, ZK 021 is due in on the 18th and ZK 020 on 22nd June. ZK 016 is 'penciled in' to head for testing at Boscombe Down. 014 & 016 have had centre line tanks removed but the RAF and therefore the six AJT pilots have been cleared to fly with them from now on. ZK 017 & 019 arrived last week and still carry the tanks, no immediate plans to re-fit 012/013/014/015/016 & 018 at this stage

Why are the T2s going to Shawbury for storage then? Is it down to money? Surely they're not ready ahead of schedule!

One reason is the flying programe for the students for the Hawk T.2 is not in full swng intil next year, the other reason is they only have 20hrs flying shakedown time.
