Following the introduction of the Specialist Photo Competiton at the start of the year, the FC team want to gauge public opinion of the Competition, and whether you guys feel it dilutes from the Main Monthly Competition. We would like you to have the decision. Either vote 'Yes' to continue with the Specialist Category competition or 'No' to discontinue it, as it devalues the Main Compeition. Poll open for 7 days

Yes vote here. Isnt the monthly competition only open to pictures that have been taken the same month? Also there will be some stonking shots of all sorts of aircraft that were taken some time ago and this forum should be a place to share them.

Ian

Ian - No need to apologise, if anyone else would care to comment as well as vote, feel free.

Yes, the monthly comp is for pics taken in the month in question. The specialist comp can be taken at any time, but must suitably fit the category

urkles - Good idea! Laughing

Steve

Oh and Ian, you're only in favour because you always seem to do quite well in it! lol! Laughing

My opinion would be to keep the specialist category. There are a huge variety of topics to choose from and for some of the younger members of the forum it is a chance to see some of the gems from the past.

I too strongly agree to keep this side competition open.

It is very different and fun to participate in, especially with the USAF heavies one that has just been there was some fantastic shot on there, and also i have more of a chance of winning if i enter in two competition's :face:

So my awnser is "Yes" keep this running.

I actually think worst photo of the month is a good idea (I too have hundreds!!) I don't mean that you deliberatly take a bad picture , I am talking that shot where you are convinced it is shot of the century only to upload it and find that you've got the settings swrong or Billy Big head has appeared etc

The specialist catagory gives me a good reason to look back through all my older images so I voted "yes" to keep it. I'm not sure a worst picture of the month is the way forward with this one though, looking through pages of "poor" pictures of uneven, out of focus, poorly composed aircraft shots isn't what I want to see.

Please dont take this comment the wrong way, we are all on a learning curve and we all make mistakes but do we really need to highlight it. Some members are better at setting the shot up and not so good at post processing and sometimes it's vice-versa but as long as we all pull together by asking questions and giving constructive feedback then the rewards of seeing members pictures improve is VERY satisfying. Lets not have a front page which is viewed by people from all around the world showing an out of focus, over exposed F-15 in the fog, these people might not get the joke.

I think the idea would be to enter images which, rather than highlighting poor composition etc, they have a humourous element to them. I have many shots with aircraft cut in half by poles, or crashing into people's heads or flying into a tree etc.

Anyway, we're digressing here (and yes that's mainly my fault), but let's get back on-topic.

Not wanting to start (or continue ) an argument, but, if a picture were to be posted in a 'bad photography' section surely the comments created by other , more informed members, would be a positive help to the person posting said picture ??
Just a thought !!

Hi Beefsteak, you're quite right if it was going to be a "bad photography" section but we are talking about a photo of the month competition.

The photo album is and always has been the place to post pictures and to ask for constructive feedback if the member posting wants it.

Anyway, back on topic, looking good for the "yes" vote.
