Fireworks display at RAF Wittering also on the 23rd July between 10:30 and 11pm
and off the topic RAF Wyton display on the same day of Cottesmore has these participating: BBMF Falcons Grob tutor Red Arrows
There should be more aircraft but these are the ones i know, but you lucky ones get the Red Arrows as Cottesmore doesn't even though it the 40th Anniversary of the Harriers!
The weather for Cottemsore does look like it will be clearing towards the afternoon. But hopefuly it turns out to be showers not a wash out!
Thanks, Cottesmore09

Thanks, Cottesmore09 Apparently they will release the flying list for RAF Wyton on the Friday, but they said that last year and didn't.
The last time the Arrows tried to display here at Wyton, there were incursions into the display box by some gliders and it had to be stopped. Better luck this time.
Brian Edit: From Reds Web Site 1403 - Reds flypast WYTON 1410 - Reds flypast COTTESMORE 1423 - Reds arrive SHAWBURY

Weather report Yes, lets hope weather is a little better, but it seems to be improving every time. Advice would be take a umbrella and a coat. At the this present time the wind will be lighter than today and tomorrow average of 9-11 mph (SW) Showers look hit and miss but hopefuly a drier afternoon as the showers clear.Temprature between 17 and 19 digrees C Thats the weather report for Friday from Cottesmore09

Any thoughts on where to park? Last time I walked-up to the runway end, I parked on the roadside through the fields on the south. Is that the best bet or is it easier to park on the road near the approach lights and walk up that way?

I have seen people park near tha approach lights. As there is a farmers field enterance that has plenty of space for 1 or 2 cars that wont get in the way of farmers access. So i say that would be you best bet. Thanks, Cottesmore09

There might be good news in the weahter as todays showers have not been seen just a few clouds and sunshine, hopefuly tomorrow should turn out the same, but there maybe some bad news as THUNDER STORMS may hit us!. I will keep looking at the weather and post you the update later. Trying to focus on the weather as we dont want any displays called off like the VULCAN.
No Harrier rehearsal has taken place as of yet like previous years and no arrivals either. So a chance of some after Lowstoft later on. Also some health information, as of 8th July there has been 5 comfirmed cases of SWINE FLUE at RAF Cottesmore, the inderviduals are being treated. This will not effect the families day, but i thought i would let you know.
More updates to come!
Thanks, Cottesmore09

No problem, like to be at help . There is good news for tomorrow, the BLADES and HAWK T1 has turned up this evening. All aircraft on list given are to be attending the event. The stars will be the Vulcan at 3pm and the Reds flypast at 2:10pm. hopefuly a special flypast by the Harriers too. Weather is nothing to worry about and should not effect any flying. They do look hit and miss and we have only had 1 shower her today after more was expected so hopefuly we may miss them. Thanks and unless any more updates come in have a good day , Thanks Cottesmore09

I hope everyone who watched the RAF Cottesmore familes day display had a good day?
We only experianced 1 heavy shower through the display and nearly all aircraft expected to fly did do so. We also had some nice additions to the day. Team guinot cancelled there display and the Vulcan never made it due to the landing gear doors having a bent bracket. I hope that she will display next year
I will be posting the pictures i took of today shortly so i will give you the link to veiw them, also details of next years families day will be issued here when they come through.
Thanks, Cottesmore09

Hi Cottesmore09,
Thanks for your helpful posts for this event. Got back tonight after a great day out. I'd never been to Cottesmore before and really enjoyed the viewing areas from the main entrance all the way 'round to runway 22 - Camera friendly, relaxing and picturesque.
Puzzled as to what happened to the Harrier squadrons. Any idea why the no-show? .

Glad you had a great day and got a good veiw of the display, This year the pilots wanted to be with there family and friends so no Cottesmore squadron display. They managed to get the solo airfield attack display. The vuclan was because of the landing gear doors has found a bent bracket (as listed in previous reply) so it never flew today at all which was ashame. But some nic suprises to the display line up too.

wat were the suprise additions then i didnt make the day? no suprises with the vulcan then eh! shame bout lack of harrier sqn movement, not heard that one before "This year the pilots wanted to be with there family and friends so no Cottesmore squadron display" hope a red arrows pilot doesnt take note and take that road out on a mid-year weekend schedule ....lol! sounds like the old railway excuses with the wrong type of snow.

Remember it was a Families Day with the emphasis on Families not a 'For The Benefit of Enthusiasts Sitting At The End Of The Runway Day' and also they have just got back from an overseas deployment.

It is rubbish saying that they didnt fly so as they can be with there family, there is nothing prouder than to see you brother sister, son or daughter daddy or mother doing what they do with these planes.Be it flying or ground crew,to see them at work is such a feeling.Plus they would have plenty of time to be with there family as they would only be with the planes a short time to have them to fly.So dont try that one on,it wont stick. They could have put up 4 planes for a few fly pasts, but one lone harrier at the end that did a few hovers and that was it.Very poor do altogether.
